NEW PROGRAMME LAUNCH | Advancing professional training in Counselling Psychology

SACAP has received HPCSA accreditation to offer a Master of Psychology in Counselling Psychology [MPsych (Counselling Psychology)], with the first intake planned for 2028 at our Sandton campus in Johannesburg.

Over the course of the programme, students will develop specialised skills in psychological assessment, case formulation and evidence-based therapeutic interventions, in preparation to support individuals, families, groups and communities across diverse contexts.

This two-year, full-time professional master’s comprises two distinct stages: the first year integrates advanced academic coursework, research and supervised practical training, while the second consists of a 12-month internship at a training site accredited by the Health Professions Council of South Africa - HPCSA.

The qualification also provides a pathway towards professional registration as a Counselling Psychologist with the HPCSA, subject to successful completion of all prescribed requirements, including the HPCSA Board Examination.

Together with our range of undergraduate, honours and master’s programmes, the new Master of Psychology in Counselling Psychology [MPsych (Counselling Psychology)] further strengthens SACAP’s position as a leader in Applied Psychology education.
