The Cape Town Creative Academy is an independent, progressive school of art and design that offers transdisciplinary degree programmes shaped by the complex demands of the contemporary information economy. The Cape Town International Animation Festival (CTIAF) celebrates the art of animation, bringing together emerging talent, industry professionals and animation lovers from Africa and beyond.

We’re thrilled that CTCA students have received seven nominations in the festival’s student category! From motion graphics to animation elective projects, these works explore the possibilities of storytelling through movement, time and sound. 🎬✨

✨ Meet our Lecturer | Wiehan de Jager ✨
Wiehan De Jager

For CTCA lecturer and artist Wiehan de Jager, mark-making is a layered conversation between collage, printmaking, drawing and painting. Often inspired by the South African landscape, his intuitive practice leaves room for experimentation and discovery.

This year, that conversation became a family affair. Exhibiting at Solo Studios’ 10-year anniversary in Riebeek Kasteel, Wiehan was joined by his children, Jewel and Nathan, Creative Kin Collective . What began as creative play evolved into a shared practice: a playful exploration of different generations sharing one canvas.🎨👏

Solo Studios is an annual art celebration in the Riebeek Valley, that invites the public into artists’ private workspaces for a closer look at where creativity unfolds.

CTCA lecturer and 3D printing specialist Philip van der Walt is facilitating the Layer by Layer Masterclass at the Craft and Design Institute (CDI)! He’ll be talking about how 3D printing can bring art, jewellery, fashion and product ideas to life, with practical insights, a live demo and a tour of the new CDI Makers Space.

We’re proud to celebrate CTCA alumni Luca Evans Luca and Kamyar Bineshtarigh کامیار بینش طریق , whose work is currently featured in Matereality V2 at the Iziko South African National Gallery.

Matereality V2 is a ten-month exhibition that brings together 70 creators and more than 100 works, amplifying leading voices from across the continent. Through materials ranging from soil, timber and sugar to wire and salvaged consumer goods, the exhibition explores how the everyday can be transformed into powerful reflections on identity, memory and culture.

Congratulations, Kamyar and Luca, on being part of this remarkable exhibition!
