Hey TUT fam!

Political student structures at the Tshwane University of Technology’s Soshanguve Campus recently came together for the Com-Battle of the Republic, a friendly soccer tournament aimed at promoting unity among students and campus structures.

Teams representing SASCO, EFFYC, ActionSA Students’ Chapter, uMkhonto weSizwe Student Movement, SCO, SUCA and SADESMO competed for top honours. Students turned out in large numbers to support their organisations throughout the tournament.

Following the knockout stages, SASCO and SUCA emerged as the finalists after SUCA defeated SADESMO in the semi-finals. The two teams are set to face off in the tournament final.

Hey TUT fam!

The Top 8 Soccer Tournament between residences and the university teams was held on 6 and 7 June 2026 at TUT North Sports Ground.

The battle for the final spots was intense leading to teams making mistakes that costed them and referees feeeling the heat from coaches and supporters who wanted their teams to advance. All teams put a strong fight however only 2 teams secured their spots.
Killers FC defeated Mighty Destroyers 1-0 in their second game making them the first team to secure the spot, while All Stars knocked TCE 2 during penalties.

All Stars missed numerous opportunities to dominate the game between Killers in the first half leading to Killers FC players identifying their weakness and equalized leading to jersey number 2 scoring a goal in the 38th minute.
The final battle concluded in 1-0 making Killers FC the champions of the tournament.

With the winter season upon us, many of us are likely to be affected by the influenza (“flu”) virus. Receiving the flu vaccine earlier in the season provides protection throughout the influenza season. Therefore, it is important to get vaccinated as soon as possible to ensure that you stay healthy all winter long.

The flu vaccine is available for free at the Directorate of Health and Wellness for staff and students, while stocks last.

Hey TUT fam!

The ISRC recently hosted a Mental Health Campaign and Exam Support Initiative at TUT South Campus to stand alongside students during the demanding exam season.

Understanding the challenges many students face, the initiative provided sandwiches, coffee and tea to ensure that no student attends class or writes exams on an empty stomach. Beyond the refreshments, the event created a safe and supportive space where students could access guidance, encouragement and information on where to seek help when feeling overwhelmed.

The Student Representative Council highlighted that hunger, stress and exam anxiety often affect students’ concentration and academic performance, making support initiatives like these more important than ever.

Together, we continue building a caring campus community where student wellbeing matters.

Hey TUT fam!

The directorate of student governance and leadership development hosted academic and financial exclusion awareness event on 21 May 2026 at TUT South Campus to address challenges that happen during registration period where students find themselves being excluded because they owe the institution or they have been continuously failing the same module.

The official mouthpiece of students main aim for the event was to provide clarity to student about issues that lead to exclusion,how they can avoid them and the appropriate offices they can go seek help at.

Representatives from SDS,Financial Aid,Disability unit and the NSFAS Office were present to remind students who have forgotten doors they are supposed to knock at when they need emotional support and clarification of their problems before matters get worse.
