Today was an exciting day as we celebrated the hard work and creativity of our 4th Year Architecture Technology students.

The Department of Architecture and Industrial Design officially handed over the WikiHouse to the Faculty of Engineering and the Built Environment. Designed and built by the students, the structure is a great example of taking an idea from the classroom and turning it into something real. It can be used as a coffee station, kiosk or a space for different activities.

And if you’re around campus, you’ll find the WikiHouse by Building 13.

The project has already taken TUT beyond our campus, featuring in Prof Amira Osman’s presentation on innovative building technologies at the World Urban Forum (WUF13) in Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan.
A proud moment for our students and a great example of making with purpose.

Earlier today, Zintle Ntlokwana from the Directorate of Research and Innovation introduced postgraduate students to the Clarivate Converis System and showed them how it can support their research journey.

The system brings important research information together in one place, including research projects, publications, funding and other research activities. Students were also shown how it helps make it easier to keep track of their research information and activities.







Earlier today, Zintle Ntlokwana from the Directorate of Research and Innovation introduced postgraduate students to the Clarivate Converis System and showed them how it can support their research journey.

The system brings important research information together in one place, including research projects, publications, funding and other research activities. Students were also shown how it helps make it easier to keep track of their research information and activities.







Wally Langa, Assistant Registrar in the Office of the Registrar: Enrolment Management and Planning, reminded postgraduate students to make sure they are properly registered before engaging with their supervisors.

He encouraged students to take their studies seriously, meet the deadlines agreed on with their supervisors and keep the lines of communication open. If they run into challenges, they should communicate rather than go silent. Staying in touch, he said, helps build trust and maintain a good relationship with their supervisors.

Research ethics was also on the programme, with Prof Jan Swanepoel, a member of the Human Research Ethics Committee (HREC), taking postgraduate students through the HREC process and why it matters.

He reminded students that research involves real people, information and data, and that these must be handled with care. From protecting participants’ privacy to collecting and storing information responsibly, students were encouraged to think about ethics from the very beginning of their research.

Still at the Postgraduate Orientation Day for the Faculty of Engineering and the Built Environment, Prof Thomas Olwal, Assistant Dean: Postgraduate Studies, Research & Innovation, took students through Tshwane University of Technology’s postgraduate policy, including the requirements, procedures and support available to them.

He reminded students that while the University has an obligation to support and guide them, they also have a responsibility to play their part and stay on track with their studies.

With Master’s studies expected to be completed within one to three years and Doctoral studies within two to five years, students were encouraged to use their time wisely, manage their work and avoid leaving everything until the last minute.

We are attending the Postgraduate Orientation Day for the Faculty of Engineering and the Built Environment, welcoming new and continuing Master’s and Doctoral students.

Standing in for Executive Dean Prof Mxolisi Shongwe, Dr Isaac Tlhabadira, Assistant Dean: Special & Industrial Projects, WIL and Community Engagements, welcomed students and encouraged them to make the most of their postgraduate journey.

His message was simple: build connections, stay curious, ask questions and look after yourself along the way. Postgraduate studies can be challenging, but students are not on this journey alone. Supervisors, peers and the university’s support services are there to help.

2026 definitely belongs to Siyabonga Mthethwa ✨🥳✨

It has already been quite a year for the Bachelor of Geomatics graduate. During Tshwane University of Technology’s Autumn Graduations, Siyabonga received the 2026 Faculty of Engineering and the Built Environment Chancellor’s Award after graduating with an impressive 25 distinctions across his degree.

He was also named the Best Graduate Award recipient by the Conference of Southern African Surveyors for 2025, placing him among the top Geomatics students nationally.

And just last Friday, Siyabonga was back in the spotlight as one of the students celebrated at the inaugural FEBE Academic Excellence Awards.

Recognising consistent improvement 🥳✨

The Most Consistently Improved Department over Three Years Award went to the Department of Electrical Engineering, with the Merit Awards going to the Department of Geomatics and the Department of Civil Engineering.

In the first frame, Dr Sally Ledwaba, FEBE Academic Excellence Coordinator, is pictured with Prof Josiah Munda, Acting Head of the Department of Electrical Engineering, receiving the award on behalf of the department.

In the second frame, Dr Ledwaba is joined by Jones Moloisane, Section Head in the Department of Civil Engineering, and Kovilen Reddy, Head of the Department of Geomatics, who received the Merit Awards on behalf of their departments.

Recognising consistent improvement in Teaching and Learning 🥳✨

The Most Consistently Improved Module (High Risk) over Three Years Award went to the Department of Electrical Engineering for the Electronics IA Diploma program offered at the Pretoria Campus.

The Merit Award went to the Department of Electrical Engineering at the eMalahleni Campus for the Electronics IA Diploma program.

Receiving the awards were Prof Josiah Munda, Acting Head of the Department of Electrical Engineering, and Dr Bolanle Abe, Academic Manager for Electrical Engineering at the eMalahleni Campus.

Recognising the Best Use of Technology ✨🥳

The inaugural FEBE Academic Excellence Awards also recognised academics who are finding new ways to use technology in teaching and learning.

Congratulations to Dr Regan Dunne, Lecturer in the Department of Mechanical and Mechatronics Engineering, who received the Best Use of Technology Award.

The Merit Award went to Lettie Mokua, Junior Lecturer in the Department of Geomatics.

A well deserved recognition of the work being done to bring technology into the learning experience and support our students.
