🎥 Behind the Scenes at Handlab! 🎬

At Handlab, we produce more than just South African Sign Language (SASL) HL CAPS curriculum materials for Deaf learners. We also develop materials for the Differentiated CAPS (DCAPS) curriculum for Deaf learners with additional learning needs.

Our DCAPS materials cover practical, everyday topics through demonstrative videos, including visiting a hospital, visiting a dentist, knowing how to use emergency services …and many more!

🎉 Another 12 topics are now completed! Here’s a little look behind the scenes at the hard work, teamwork - and plenty of fun that goes into creating these materials.

We’re looking forward to seeing the completed post-production materials reach schools for the Deaf and, most importantly, support Deaf learners in developing practical skills for everyday life.

The annual DEPASA (Deaf Education Principals’ Association South Africa) Conference was held last weekend in the North West Province.

This year’s theme, “Strengthening Deaf Education through Strategic Leadership,” highlighted the importance of strong, strategic leadership in creating better opportunities and outcomes for Deaf learners.

Handlab had the privilege of presenting our work and sharing our latest developments with principals and schools for the Deaf from across South Africa.

The Handlab team continued the rollout of our Learning Management System (LMS) at Dominican School for Deaf Children as part of our pilot project.

We spent two inspiring days with teachers and Deaf assistants, exploring the platform together, sharing ideas, and gathering valuable feedback. Their insights will help us refine the LMS to better support teaching and learning in South African Sign Language (SASL).

We are excited about the progress and look forward to making the platform available soon. Thank you to everyone at Dominican School for your enthusiasm, collaboration, and support throughout the pilot!
