Many schools face ongoing shortages of learning materials and classroom resources. But a group of Stellenbosch University (SU) students saw an opportunity to turn this challenge into a solution.

As part of their training, SU Education students create flashcards, posters and other teaching materials for assignments. Too often, these resources end up forgotten in cupboards or thrown away at the end of the academic year.

Through their student-led initiative, 𝗙𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗰𝗹𝗮𝘀𝘀𝗿𝗼𝗼𝗺 𝘁𝗼 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗶𝗿𝘀, these materials can now find a second life in schools where they are needed.

The idea grew out of a philosophy assignment in which they were challenged to identify an education problem in South Africa and develop a campaign for change.

Their solution? Give pre-service teachers’ classroom resources a second life by sharing them with schools that need them.

Sometimes, making a difference starts with what you already have. ❤️

Walk-together-express service available during the assessment period

It’s assessment time, and Campus Security has added an additional walk-with service over the next few weeks to help students get to their destinations safely.

The walk-together-express service will be available in the evenings throughout the assessment period, every hour, from 18:00 onwards.

Students can meet at the security kiosk outside the Jan Mouton Building, where a security staff member will accompany groups to various destinations.

The routes include Goldfields, Lobelia, Engineering, Huis Russel Botman, Drie Susters and Monica residence.

Please note: This service does not replace the normal walk-with service. You can still request the usual service via WhatsApp on 082 808 2333.
