Stellenbosch Alumni To create, nurture, support and manage an inclusive strongly united global community of SU Alumni by linking the past, the present and the future.

“Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world”- Nelson Mandela, awarded an honorary doctorate by Stellenbosch University, 1996

Graduating from university is a big step in your life’s journey. Once you have obtained your degree, you form part of the alumni community and Stellenbosch University remains your intellectual home. The Alumni Relations Office strives to keep you connected to your alma mater long after the euphoria of obtaining your qualification/s has died down. The success of a university depends greatly on the participation of its alumni. To facilitate these connections, our strategy rests on five pillars: engagement and cultivation, communication, volunteer management, early student engagement and alumni giving. Each pillar forms an integral part of the process of generating more opportunities for you to stay connected to the University, creating a stronger bond not only between the University and its alumni, but also among alumni.

SU has welcomed 285 students into its seventh Dell Young Leaders cohort, taking the total past 1 500 scholarships since 2020. But as the Vice Chancellor reminded them at their launch: "You are not a number in that story. You are the reason for it."

A rebellious Pinotage with a rock ’n’ roll soundtrack.

Matie Etienne Louw, co-founder of Orpheus & the Raven, pairs w**es with music to bring their character to life. For the Lucky No. 7 Pinotage, he’s chosen Seven Nation Army by The White Stripes, a fitting anthem for a w**e inspired by seven vineyard sites and Pinotage’s fight to claim its place on the world stage.

A pioneering experiment that became a uniquely South African legacy.

In 1924, Professor A.I. Perold crossed Pinot Noir and Cinsaut at Stellenbosch University, laying the foundations for Pinotage. First commercially released in 1961, Pinotage has become an internationally recognised symbol of South African w**emaking.

This World Pinotage Day, we celebrate the lasting impact of pioneering research.

Homecoming took on a special meaning during an evening where art, w**e and music blended together.

Fellow Maties Samarie Smith-Meletiou, Inge Zelewitz and Etienne Louw brought this theme to life through a multisensory experience in a special celebration of Matie creativity and connection.

Celebrating the achievements of Stellenbosch University alumnus Dr André Mckyle Pillay, who has been named one of the Mail & Guardian 200 Young South Africans in the Health category.

A 2024 MBChB graduate of Stellenbosch University, Dr Pillay has continued to build on his passion for healthcare, leadership and mental health advocacy. He was also recently selected to serve on the South African Depression and Anxiety Group Youth Advisory Committee, where he contributes to initiatives focused on strengthening youth mental health awareness, advocacy and support.

We are proud to celebrate this milestone and the continued contribution of our alumni to healthcare and society.

Congratulations, Dr Pillay!

Baie geluk, dr. Pillay!
