From 24 to 28 August 2026, the African Doctoral Academy at Stellenbosch University, in collaboration with the Centre for Innovation in Learning and Teaching at the Central University of Technology, presented a short course on ๐๐๐๐๐๐ฆ๐ข๐ ๐๐๐๐๐๐ซ๐ฌ๐ก๐ข๐ฉ ๐๐ง๐ ๐๐จ๐ฏ๐๐ซ๐ง๐๐ง๐๐ ๐ข๐ง ๐๐ข๐ ๐ก๐๐ซ ๐๐๐ฎ๐๐๐ญ๐ข๐จ๐ง: ๐๐ข๐๐ฅ๐จ๐ ๐ฎ๐๐ฌ ๐จ๐ง ๐๐๐๐ฅ๐๐๐ญ๐ข๐ฏ๐ ๐๐๐๐๐๐ซ๐ฌ๐ก๐ข๐ฉ in Bloemfontein.
The five-day short course introduced key leadership theories and practices while drawing on participantsโ professional experience and the collective expertise of the group.
Across eight dialogues, participants explored leadership at the individual, interpersonal and institutional levels. Dialogues ranged from self-awareness and emotional intelligence to team development, academic governance and leadership within an academic department.
The course encouraged participants to reflect critically on their leadership approaches and identify practical opportunities for continued development. This work culminated in the preparation of a Personal Leadership Development Plan.
We thank Mr Schalk van der Merwe for facilitating the course. We also thank our colleagues at the Central University of Technology for their valued collaboration and support.
Our sincere appreciation goes to the participants for their active engagement and for sharing their knowledge and experience throughout the programme.
