Last week, Jordan Kestle travelled to Pokhara, Nepal to deliver the SBML Train the Trainer Programme, a five-day intensive training week hosted by the Nepal Tourism and Hospitality Management College (NTHMC). 🌏

As part of the DIGO Pokhara Hospitality Training Programme in partnership with Swisscontact Nepal, SHL developed the full Sustainable Business Management & Leadership curriculum and all accompanying teaching materials, covering strategic sustainability, marketing & sales, finance & cost controlling, risk management, and leadership.

The Train the Trainer programme now equips local hospitality educators to deliver this curriculum independently, building lasting training capacity within the region.

We are proud to support the professionalisation of hospitality education in Nepal alongside our partners at Swisscontact.

Jordan Kestle reiste nach Pokhara in Nepal, um das SBML Train-the-Trainer-Programm durchzuführen – eine intensive fünftägige Weiterbildung, die vom Nepal Tourism and Hospitality Management College (NTHMC) organisiert wurde. 🌏

Im Rahmen des DIGO Pokhara Hospitality Training Programms, das in Zusammenarbeit mit Swisscontact Nepal umgesetzt wird, entwickelte die SHL den gesamten Lehrplan für Sustainable Business Management & Leadership sowie sämtliche dazugehörigen Unterrichtsmaterialien. Die Inhalte umfassen unter anderem strategische Nachhaltigkeit, Marketing & Sales, Finance & Cost Controlling, Risikomanagement und Leadership.

Mit dem Train-the-Trainer-Programm werden lokale Dozierende und Fachpersonen befähigt, diese Inhalte künftig selbstständig zu vermitteln und so nachhaltige Ausbildungsstrukturen in der Region zu stärken.

Wir sind stolz darauf, gemeinsam mit unserem Partner Swisscontact einen Beitrag zur Weiterentwicklung und Professionalisierung der Hospitality-Ausbildung in Nepal zu leisten.

«Vernissage at Hermitage» in a nutshell. ✨

Letzte Woche durften wir das Pop-up-Projekt unserer Studierenden im Hermitage Luzern erleben. Die Gewinner:innen-Gruppe erhielt die Möglichkeit, ihr Konzept in die Realität umzusetzen – mit grossem Erfolg.

Mit einer stimmungsvollen Inszenierung, Werken verschiedener Künstler, einem durchdachten kulinarischen Angebot und viel Herzblut schufen die Studierenden einen wundervollen Abend. Besonders schön: Die Gäste waren nicht nur Zuschauer, sondern konnten selbst kreativ werden und zum Pinsel greifen. 🖌️

Ein grosses Dankeschön an alle Besucher:innen, das Hermitage Luzern für die Gastfreundschaft, sowie natürlich an das gesamte Team hinter der «Vernissage at Hermitage» für die professionelle Umsetzung dieses Konzepts und einen rundum gelungenen Abend.

Last week, we had the pleasure of experiencing our students’ pop-up project at Hermitage Lucerne. As the winning team, they were given the opportunity to bring their concept to life – with great success.

Through a carefully curated setting, works by various artists, a thoughtfully designed culinary offering and a great deal of passion, the students created a truly wonderful evening. What made it particularly special was that guests were not merely spectators but were invited to get creative themselves and pick up a paintbrush. 🖌️

A big thank you to all visitors, to the team at Hermitage Lucerne for their hospitality, and of course to the entire team behind «Vernissage at Hermitage» for the professional ex*****on of this concept and for delivering such a successful evening.

404: IT-Problem Not Found!

Zumindest nicht, wenn «Bosi» in der Nähe ist. Denn während sich Technologien, Systeme und Programme in den letzten Jahren ständig verändert haben, gibt es an der SHL eine verlässliche Konstante: Bozidar Prskalo. 🤝

Seit 10 Jahren sorgt er als Leiter IT/CT dafür, dass an der SHL alles läuft. Ob technische Herausforderungen in der Aula, Moodle-Prüfungen oder Drucker und Laptops mit Eigenleben: Es gibt kaum ein IT-Problem, für das er keine Lösung findet.

Doch nicht nur sein technisches Know-how ist es, das ihn auszeichnet. Mit seiner ruhigen und überlegten Art bringt «Bosi» Gelassenheit in den oft quirligen SHL-Alltag. Er hat immer ein offenes Ohr, begegnet Menschen mit grosser Empathie und ist dabei authentisch – für viele schlicht der Fels in der Brandung.

Lieber Bosi, danke für zehn Jahre Engagement, Geduld und Unterstützung. Wir schätzen uns sehr glücklich, dich im Team zu haben, und freuen uns auf alle weiteren Jahre mit dir. 🙏

404: IT Problem Not Found!

At least not when «Bosi» is around. While technologies, systems and software have constantly evolved over the years, there has been one reliable constant at SHL: Bozidar Prskalo. 🤝

For the past 10 years, as Head of IT/CT, he has ensured that everything at SHL runs smoothly. Whether it is technical challenges in the auditorium, Moodle examinations, or printers and laptops with a mind of their own, there is hardly an IT issue for which he cannot find a solution.

Yet it is not only his technical expertise that sets him apart. With his calm and thoughtful manner, «Bosi» brings a sense of stability to the often fast-paced SHL environment. He always has an open ear, approaches people with great empathy and remains authentic in everything he does – for many, he is simply the person they know they can always count on.

Dear Bosi, thank you for ten years of dedication, patience and support. We feel incredibly fortunate to have you as part of our team and look forward to many more years together. 🙏

In May, SHL welcomed counsellors from leading international schools for our Counsellor Fly-In Programme in Lucerne. ✨

From immersive classroom experiences and meaningful student interactions to exceptional cuisine prepared by our students, the visit offered an authentic glimpse into life at SHL.

Beyond campus, our guests explored the beauty of Lucerne through lakeside moments, local experiences, and Swiss hospitality at its finest. 🇨🇭

Learning through practice – experiencing the world. 🌎

SHL student Linus completed his Food & Beverage internship in Mexico City, showing just how diverse an international placement can be – opening perspectives and broadening horizons in a lasting way.

It’s not only just about experience. it's about deepening language skills in a real-life context, discovering new cultures and people, applying and developing the skills gained at SHL Schweizerische Hotelfachschule Luzern in day-to-day practice.

SHL Student Linus absolvierte sein F&B-Praktikum in Mexico City und zeigt, wie vielseitig ein Praktikum im Ausland sein kann – weil es den Blick öffnet und den eigenen Horizont nachhaltig erweitert.

Viele lächelnde Gesichter und spürbare Freude am Austausch prägten den gestrigen Karrieretag an der SHL Schweizerische Hotelfachschule Luzern. ☀️

Spannende Unternehmen trafen auf interessierte Studierende, um an den Tischmesseständen ins Gespräch zu kommen, Einblicke zu teilen und sich gegenseitig kennenzulernen. Ergänzt wurde der Tag durch digitale Zuschaltungen aus der ganzen Welt. Diese eröffneten die Möglichkeit, sich auch mit internationalen Unternehmen zu vernetzen und zusätzliche Einblicke zu gewinnen.

Im Austausch entstanden erste Matches, neue Kontakte und bestehende Bekanntschaften wurden gepflegt. Zudem bot der Flying Lunch den passenden Rahmen, um Gespräche weiterzuführen und den Austausch ganz natürlich in entspannter Atmosphäre fortzusetzen. 🤝💙

Smiling faces and a genuine sense of joy in connecting defined yesterday’s Career Day at SHL Schweizerische Hotelfachschule Luzern ☀️

Inspiring companies met engaged students at the table-top fair to exchange ideas, share insights and get to know each other. The day was further enriched by digital live connections from around the world, offering the opportunity to engage with international companies and gain additional perspectives.

Within these exchanges, first matches were made, new connections formed, and existing relationships strengthened. The Flying Lunch provided the ideal setting to continue conversations and let the exchange flow naturally in a relaxed atmosphere. 🤝💙

Neun Studierende aus Südtirol gleichzeitig an der SHL – ein neuer Rekord, der uns riesig freut. 😊

Auch wenn sie auf unterschiedliche Semester verteilt sind, hat es für ein gemeinsames Mittagessen geklappt. Ein schönes Bild! Talente aus Südtirol sind bei uns nicht nur zahlreich vertreten, sondern vor allem: herzlich willkommen. Uns verbindet nämlich weit mehr als die gemeinsame Leidenschaft für Hospitality – SHL und Südtirol, das passt einfach.

Was uns dabei besonders stolz macht: die enge und wertvolle Partnerschaft mit dem HGV, der solche Wege nach Luzern seit vielen Jahren möglich macht und unterstützt. 🤝

Wir bedanken uns herzlich für das grosse Vertrauen der Studierenden sowie des HGV und freuen uns auf viele weitere SHL-Geschichten mit Südtirol-Connection.

Nine students from South Tyrol at the SHL at the same time – a new record that makes us incredibly happy. 😊

Even though they are spread across different semesters, it was great to bring everyone together for a shared lunch. A lovely moment! Students from South Tyrol are not only strongly represented at SHL, but above all: always warmly welcomed. We are connected by far more than just a shared passion for hospitality – SHL and South Tyrol simply go hand in hand.

What makes us particularly proud is our close and valued partnership with the HGV, which has been supporting students on their path to SHL for many years. 🤝

We sincerely thank both the students and the HGV for their trust and look forward to many more SHL stories with a South Tyrolean connection.

A high-intensity week across China, focused on impact.

Our recent trip to China with the SHL management board was a concentrated business mission – centred on building partnerships, advancing local programmes and deepening our understanding of a fast-evolving market.

A selection of what we made happen:

🔹 Shanghai: CieCAS × SHL Open Day - launch of our partnership and the SHL Regional Hub in China, joined by guests from diplomacy, industry and education.
🔹 Hangzhou: Inspiring visit to Unitree Robotics - one of China’s leading robotics centres. A powerful reminder of the pace of innovation shaping our industry.
🔹 Hong Kong: Handshake on a key milestone in the development of a one-year Master’s pathway for SHL graduates at PolyU Hong Kong.
🔹 In Hangzhou and Shenzhen, we exchanged ideas with partners and explored future hospitality education initiatives and collaboration opportunities.
🔹 Hong Kong: SHL Roundtable with students, alumni and a wonderful high school counsellor – thank you for a wonderful evening and the opportunity to reconnect far from home. It was also a great pleasure to catch-up with SHL alumni Kurt Walter and Clifford Weiner - thank you both for your time.
🔹 Across multiple locations: Visits to high schools to strengthen relationships and connect with future talent

Beyond the meetings, we gained invaluable first-hand insights into the Chinese market by immersing ourselves in the culture, conversations and context on the ground.

And last, but certainly not least:
A sincere thank you to our Advisory Board member Roger Lienhard, his lovely wife Jennifer as well as his amazing team for their warm hospitality and for giving us a unique glimpse into the fascinating world of Galaxy Macau and beyond – we are still in awe.

This week reaffirmed one thing: meaningful international growth is built through strong personal relationships, local insight and consistent commitment.
