The seven fermented projects are fizzing up – let's kick off the festival with a POP! 🥂

You're invited to the official launch of the Being Human Festival!
We're stepping off campus and into the heart of the community at our Tai Hang storefront, kicking off eleven days of curiosity, creation, and connection.

Fresh faces, new ideas, and plenty of FiZZ.🫧Our opening mixer, CultureCULTURESculture, is your first taste of what’s to come.

Meet the minds bringing the festival to life, discover the upcoming programme, and mingle over homemade kombucha, b**r, and fermented snacks. From the cultures we share to the cultures we ferment, let’s explore what brings us together – and what makes us human.

Food keeps us connected, and alive. It carries our cultures, holds our memories, and gives us a reason to gather together.

From 5–15 November, our Tai Hang storefront becomes FiZZ Hub: a living pop-up hub where we’ll ”ferment“ new connections through food. Together, we’ll explore fermentation, food preservation, and the cultures and communities they nourish.

Come get curious, get hands-on, and bring a little of yourself to the table. Brew kombucha, grow a ginger bug (a fizzy starter for homemade sodas), play with SCOBYs, make cyanotype sun prints, share food memories, swap recipes — and much more.

Whether you’re a seasoned fermenter or simply curious, there’s a place for you here. Bring a friend, a recipe, or a food story you’d love to share.

🗓️ Dates: 5–15 November 2026
📍Location: Tai Hang Store Front, 28 Shepard Street

Join the Centre of Buddhist Studies at HKU for an open house where neuroscience meets Buddhist mindfulness. Step away from the noise of the city, let’s tune into your inner world, and discover ways to care for your mind, and the power of presence and inner peace.

What to expect in the 1-hour session?

❶ Explore a Contemplative Practice:
Each session begins with a guided practice led by an experienced practitioner. Choose the path that speaks to you:

🍵 Tea Meditation: Practice deep presence by engaging your senses with the heat, aroma, and taste of artisanal tea.
🎵 Somatic Grounding and Chanting: Use rhythmic chanting to relax through vocal vibrations, followed by body scanning to connect your mind and body.
💛 Compassion Meditation: Direct love, warmth, and understanding towards yourself, others, and the world.

❷ Neuroscience in Action:
Put on an EEG headband to track your brainwaves. As you settle into a state of calm, watch your inner peace translate into digital commands to pilot a drone in real-time. It‘s a playful, tangible way to see the potential of a focused mind.

In a time when stress is a daily reality, understanding how the mind works, and how spiritual practices and neuroscience can support our wellbeing has never felt more relevant.

📅 Dates: Nov 6–8 & Nov 13–15 (Public sessions)
| Nov 9–12 (By appointment only)

📍 Location: Tai Hang Store Front, G/F, 27 Shepherd Street, Tai Hang, Hong Kong
