Ming Hai zine: 2nd edition first printed in 2023 and now reprinted in 2026! Thank you to everyone who has brought a zine and supported! 🫶

Stories from all the Chan family members of what it is like to live and work in a Chinese Takeaway, that has been part of East London for 37 years.

The Chan family recently found an old photo of the takeaway back in 1997 when it was called Sandringham Fish Bar. Predominantly serving fish, pies, saveloys, Jamaican patties and chips to a working class area full of factory workers. Recent photo of Ming Hai taken during the partial solar eclipse this Summer where the takeaway now mainly do British Chinese takeaway food, with the chip shop items having been retired due to the changing tastes of the local area due to gentrification.

SET Social SET Social’s Community Day & Market returns Sunday 4 October, 12-5pm!

Come down and browse our indoor and outdoor stalls filled with everything from handmade goods to vintage treasures, jewellery, prints, zines, bakes, collectables and more.

There’ll also be free drop-in workshops with our COMMUNITY GARDEN & Banana Holdwin throughout the day (more details to come!), as well as food and drinks from our bar and café.

Entry on the day is completely free and you don’t need to be a member to join the fun!

Thank you to everyone who joined me at Camden Inspire festival for the Weaved Bookbinding workshop where we made upcycled notebooks and weaved sweet wrappers for the covers.

Snippets from the workshop alongside all the notebooks made, its a joy for me to see your notebooks taking shape and I hope it inspires you to make more upcycled notebooks at home.

It was a lovely afternoon in the Sun with other fellow community artists doing their workshops, live music, talks and food. Thank you Camden Inspire for having me at your inspiring climate change festival.

Thankful for all the love that Ming Hai Zine receives, a recent one from Etsy 🫶🥹. The Chan family and I are still in awe with how it has resonated with people. The 2nd edition has SOLD OUT! A reprint is currently in the progress 😊

感謝! From the bottom of our hearts we thank everyone who has supported and shared takeaway kids stories with us, it means so much for these British Chinese Takeaway kids to share their diaspora stories with the world with such warm response ❤️

Fun tidbit: This year of 2026, papa Chan decided to put up Chinese New Year decorations for the celebrations in February for the first time ever instead of just sticking a 揮春fai chun (traditional Chinese decorative paper with well wishes) on the door 🤭

Today is Mid Autumn festival 中秋節, a harvest festival celebrated during the full moon, where families gather to eat mooncakes and watch the moon to celebrate unity and harmony. Wishing everyone who is celebrating, a wonderful time with family and friends 中秋節快樂 🥮🏮🌝

Collective Publishing Practices is a programme hosted by the Cubitt Community Distribution Centre (CDC), centering on work by community publishers, artists, writers, translators and organisers working through print, collective methodology and community distribution as modes of social action.

kamipaper will be back in South East London, joining SET Social community day & market (10 years edition) this Sunday 6th Sept 2026, 12-5pm!

SET Social: This September, SET turns 10! To mark a whole decade of SET, we’re putting on a month-long programme of events across London, with SET Social’s monthly Community Day and Market getting a special anniversary edition.

Join us on Sunday 6 September, 12-5pm, for an afternoon of indoor and outdoor stalls filled with handmade goods, vintage treasures, ceramics, prints, zines, bakes, collectables and more. There’ll also be free, drop-in workshops, food, drinks from our bar and café, and plenty of time to have a mooch and a chat. All event profits will go towards our SET Social fundraiser (link in their bio).

Whether you’re a longtime SET supporter or discovering us for the first time, come down, support local makers and help us mark 10 years of SET.

Please note: SET is a registered arts charity. Every penny spent at the bar goes directly toward our projects and the work we do for our community. Because of this, we kindly ask that no outside drinks are brought in.
