A third-year English student, photographer, and former publishing intern with Cork University Press, Gwen joined me to chat about publishing, photography, archives, student life, and the role libraries play in supporting creativity and research.
Her soundtrack is a great mix of indie rock, post-punk, shoegaze, alternative pop, experimental music, Maltese pop and contemporary Irish sounds, with plenty of stories behind the songs along the way.

Michele Power’s Shush! Takeover is now available on our Mixcloud. Link in bio.

Manager of UCC’s Quercus Talented Students’ Programme, Michele joined me for a wide-ranging conversation about education, student opportunity, libraries, community, music, and memorable gigs from over the years.

Her soundtrack reflects a lifelong love of music, bringing together Irish folk, classic rock, singer-songwriter favourites, pop classics, gospel music, classical works, and contemporary acoustic sounds, with every track carrying a personal story or special memory.

The conversation also includes one of the show’s best pieces of memorabilia yet: photographic proof that Michele really does own a drumstick used by Larry Mullen Jr. during U2’s legendary Lark by the Lee concert in 1985.

A few weeks ago I started a new show on UCC98.3FM The Thursday Mixtape.

The idea for this show is simple. There are no genres, no boundaries and no particular rules - as the opening track of this show goes, it’s all kinds of everything. Every track is chosen purely because I like it and want people to hear it.

The first show is now available on Mixcloud.

Across the two hours of this show I played indie, post-punk, ambient, electronica, ska, alternative rock, French pop and a few other places. Some songs may be familiar to you. Others may be completely new. That’s part of the fun.
Hopefully you’ll discover something you might not otherwise have come across.
