Did you know DCU’s door is always open to the wider community?

Each year, thousands of people from our local communities visit our campuses in Glasnevin and Drumcondra to learn, play, socialise and make use of our many facilities.

DCU is a 'University of Place' that aims to be a valuable resource for North Dublin. That’s why our engagement with local communities extends way beyond our campuses and into the wider region.

The ‘DCU in the Community’ website captures the work we do with community members, schools and local authorities, under ‘Regional Engagement and Partnerships’, ‘Community Engagement and Programmes’, ‘Volunteering’, and ‘Access to Higher Education’.

DCU in the Community invites you to join our free 6‑week programme, Cultural Health Psychology: Does the “Man Flu” Exist?. Explore how different cultures understand physical and mental illness, why diagnoses and treatments vary worldwide, how superstitions evolve to protect us, and how psychology shapes global health.

The DCU Campus choir will be closing their year with a free concert in All Hallows chapel on Thursday, 28 May. The choir has increased its membership in recent years and now includes some members from the local Glasnevin/Drumcondra communities in addition to current and retired staff.

For the summer concert, there will be an emphasis on folk music from England, Scotland, Ireland and Wales (in Welsh) with guest uilleann piper, Séamus Ong, accompanying the choir.

When: Thursday 28 May, 7:30pm

DCU in the Community is offering a free 6-week politics course, entitled 'Power & Politics'. In this course participants will explore how history is politicised and used to serve power, shape political agendas, and legitimise authority through a series of case studies ranging from colonial empires to Russia’s war in Ukraine.

DCU in the Community is offering a free 6-week course entitled 'An Introduction to Climate Change and Media Literacy'.

In this course, participants will explore how climate and sustainability issues are communicated in the media, from news and social media to everyday conversations. Participants will develop practical skills to critically assess information, understand misinformation, and create a simple media piece focused on climate and sustainability.
