🏆 Huge congratulations to ATU Sports Scholar Jason Rabbitte, named the 2026 PwC GAA/GPA Young Hurler of the Year!

Jason enjoyed a phenomenal double win at last night's PwC GAA All-Star Awards in Dublin, taking home both a coveted All-Star Award and the prestigious Young Hurler of the Year title 🌟

A fantastic achievement and a true reflection of the talent, hard work and dedication he brings to his sport.

From representing St Mary's Athenry at club level and Galway on the inter-county stage, to being part of the ATU sporting community, this is a fantastic achievement that brings huge pride to his club, county and the wider ATU community.

📖 ATU and That's Life Galway have launched In the Fold, an exhibition of handmade pop-up books created by six That's Life artists in collaboration with ATU MA in Creative Practice graduate Eva O'Byrne.

Developed through eight creative workshops, the exhibition forms part of the Radius Project, now in its seventh year, connecting ATU students with local artists through collaborative arts practice.

The exhibition is open to the public at ATU's Wellpark Road campus library until Friday, 30 October.

Best of luck to ATU Galway Energy Engineering graduand Sean Loewen and his supervisor, Dr Laurentiu Dimache, ahead of the Innovative Student Engineer of the Year Competition, organised by Engineers Ireland.

Sean is one of four finalists in this year's competition which takes place at Engineers Ireland's headquarters this Thursday, 22 October. Congratulations to Sean on being shortlisted, and best of luck in the final!

ℹ️ATU Statement Regarding Industrial Action:

Industrial action relating to national pay agreement negotiations is currently taking place across Ireland and is affecting higher education institutions, including Atlantic Technological University (ATU).

ATU has been notified by the TUI, SIPTU, UNITE and FORSA trade unions of planned strike action on Wednesday, 14 October 2026, and Wednesday, 21 October 2026.

If this action proceeds, students should not attend any ATU campus as teaching activities, catering and student support services will not be available on these dates. Should the strike be cancelled, classes will go ahead.

All teaching activity, including both on-campus and online classes, has been cancelled for Wednesday 14 October. Classes will be held as usual on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday.

The work of four recent ATU Fine Art graduates from our Galway City, Wellpark Road and Sligo campuses is on display in Dublin as part of Westerly, which officially opened at Europa Gallery this week.

Launched by ATU President Dr Orla Flynn, the exhibition features work by Callum Lewis, Cassandra O’Neill, Sarah Callaghan and Scott Nokia, spanning sculpture, photography, painting and other media.

Presented by ATU in partnership with the European Parliament Liaison Office, Westerly runs until 30 October at Europa Gallery, part of Europa Experience Dublin, 11 Chatham Street.

All-Ireland-winning Mayo Senior Football Manager and ATU graduate Andy Moran officially launched ATU’s new BSc (Hons) in Sport, Exercise and Performance Psychology yesterday at the Mayo campus.

The new CAO programme will be delivered across ATU’s Mayo and Galway City campuses, exploring how psychology influences performance, participation, motivation and well-being across sport, exercise and performance settings.

Applications open through the CAO on 5 November.

His Excellency David Gill, German Ambassador to Ireland, visited ATU Mayo Campus this week.

During his visit, the Ambassador learned about the campus’s history, toured its facilities and met with staff, German language lecturers and students. Mayo’s recent All-Ireland success also made its way into the conversation!

☘️ Best of luck to Eoin Dalton as he represents Team Ireland in Cabinetmaking at the 48th WorldSkills Competition in Shanghai, China, this week.

From Lahinch, Co. Clare, Eoin will compete in Cabinetmaking, having developed his skills at ATU Connemara.

Mechanical Engineering graduand Gary Moore is showcasing his innovative final-year project in the Innovation Arena at the 2026 National Ploughing Championships in Tullamore this week.

He was one of the top three students in Ireland shortlisted for Young Innovator of the Year with a project developed as part of his final year at ATU Galway City.

Under the supervision of Dr Tom Roche from ATU’s Department of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering, Gary designed a new mounting system to make attaching large equipment to tractors quicker, easier and safer for a single operator.

👏 A fantastic achievement and a proud moment for his classmates and the Mechanical Engineering team at ATU Galway City.
