The ATU Engineering Expo 2026 is the place to be for students, professionals, and enthusiasts alike. Get ready to see how ATU Donegal Mechanical, Electronic, Biomedical and Electric Vehicle Engineering students of years 1 to 4 have used cutting-edge technologies to deliver their fantastic projects, and network with industry experts.

We are delighted to announce our Expo 2026 Guest Speaker is ATU Engineering alumnus Greg Mullen, Director of Planning and Design at Circet Ireland & UK.

With extensive experience across telecoms, power, electronics, and computing, he leads a high-performing team of over 150 professionals. Greg joins us to share a practical perspective on delivering large-scale infrastructure projects, along with personal insights on how an engineering degree can accelerate and shape a successful career.

Huge thanks to Saint Eunan's College, Letterkenny for hosting us on Friday for a fantastic and informative event as part of Engineers Week.

The event provided great insights into the range of disciplines available within our Department. Our lecturers spoke about Mechanical Engineering, Electric Vehicle Engineering, Electronic Engineering, Renewable Energy, and Engineering Management, giving students a valuable overview of the opportunities in each area.

We were also delighted to have Jonathan and Justin with us as our student ambassadors, sharing their experiences of studying engineering.

A big thank you as well to the students who attended — we hope you found the session valuable and gained useful insights into the different engineering pathways available.

Yesterday we had the pleasure of visiting Moyola Precision Engineering for an industry site visit with our 2nd year and final year Mechanical Engineering & Electric Vehicle Engineering students.

A special thank you to the engineers who took the time to show our students around and demonstrate the real-world applications of CNC machining and advanced manufacturing processes within a truly world-class facility.

Thank you again to everyone at Moyola for hosting us — it was a valuable and inspiring experience for our students👏.

We’re pleased to share that one of our BEng (Hons) Electronic Engineering students has been awarded a Sports Scholarship in Cycling 🚴‍♂️.

This achievement reflects the hard work and commitment required to balance academic study with sporting dedication. Managing both is no small task, and this recognition is well deserved.

👉A great piece for the New Year featured in the Irish Independent😁👏
It highlights some of the great work carried out by the Wisar Lab & Technology Gateway & the ATU Donegal Department of Electronic & Mechanical engineering.

Congratulations to WISAR Lab research engineer and graduate of the Electronic Engineering program here at ATU Donegal, Senan Morris, who travelled out to Kumi region in the east of Uganda to install the latest prototype of the technology in 10 boreholes.

The technology deployed, developed in Letterkenny, features a smart sensor to detect faults in the handpumps being used in boreholes in rural Uganda.

The ongoing collaboration between the lab research engineers, dept staff members, a number of Industry partners and supported by Enterprise Ireland, is on behalf of charity partner Fields of Life who, next year, researchers will ultimately hand over the project to.

Our 2nd year Mechanical Engineering students wrapped up in the machine shop before Christmas, concluding their workshop and CNC practical's.

Here are some highlights from the semester, showcasing hands-on work in the workshop and on the CNC machines. Great effort and progress from all the students throughout the term — well done!
