Éiru keeping watch over our Year 2 Biodiversity and Horticulture students during a brilliant afternoon of field skills training at Carriganore! ☀️
We packed plenty into the afternoon:
🌱 Line transects and quadrat sampling in the Walled Garden
📋 Identifying habitats using Fossitt habitat classification codes
🐝 Visiting dry banks being used by nesting solitary bees
🐝 Checking out the bee boxes around campus, which have been fully occupied since their installation several years ago
🦇 Learning about the bat boxes in the woodland with Yvonne
🌳 Visiting the trial agroforestry plot
🌿 Checking the progress of a hedgerow planted to specification two years ago
🦋 Visiting the biodiversity hotspot beside the Waterford Greenway
And the sun shone for us! ☀️
Great to finish the afternoon with a happy class, plenty of smiles and lots of new practical skills for surveying and measuring biodiversity across different habitats. 🌱
