As the Erasmus+ Non-formal project approaches its conclusion, we are pleased to reflect on our contribution as the Maltese partner to this European collaboration.

Through shared experiences and international training activities, we have explored how non-formal education can support functional literacy and create new learning opportunities for young people.

We invite educators, youth workers and organisations to discover the project's activities and results.

How can non-formal education help young people develop skills beyond traditional classroom activities?

The Erasmus+ Non-formal project has explored this question through training, practical experiences and cooperation among partners from four European countries.

One of the project's objectives is to make the experience useful beyond the partnership, supporting youth workers, educators and organisations interested in applying non-formal learning methods.

🇪🇺 Save the date: Sustainable Ecotourism Awareness webinar — part of Erasmus Days 2026. The tourism sector is under growing pressure to reconcile competitiveness with environmental responsibility. Small and medium-sized tourism enterprises (SMEs), in particular, often lack the resources or guidance to translate sustainability commitments into concrete action.

To address this, we are pleased to invite you to a webinar dedicated to Sustainable Ecotourism Awareness and Green Skills for Tourism SMEs.

🇪🇺 NONFORMAL Project | Final Transnational Project Meeting in Malta 🇲🇹

Yesterday, the partners of the NONFORMAL Non-formal Education for Functional Literacy of the Youth project came together in Malta for our Final Transnational Project Meeting, kindly hosted by Mediterranean Academy of Culture, Technology and Trade.

As we approach the final stages of this Erasmus+ journey, the meeting offered an important opportunity to look back at the work carried out together, review the results achieved across the different project activities, discuss the finalisation of the Project Handbook and other key outputs, and coordinate the last steps towards project completion.

Over the course of the project, partners from , , and have contributed their knowledge, experience and commitment to developing and testing approaches that strengthen young people's functional literacy through non-formal education.

A sincere thank you to all project partners for the work carried out so far and for their continued cooperation as we move towards the final completion of this wonderful project. 💙
And a special thank you to Mediterranean Academy of Culture, Technology and Trade, our Maltese partner, for hosting the final meeting and for the warm welcome and hospitality in Malta. 🇲🇹

LIFENAT Interim Project Meeting in Leiria, Portugal! 🇵🇹

Today, the LIFENAT partners are meeting in Leiria for our Interim Project Meeting, an important opportunity to reflect on the work achieved so far and plan the next steps of the project together.

Today’s meeting marks an important step forward. Together, we are reviewing and finalising the LIFENAT Training Programme, planning the upcoming Pilot Training for educators, and defining the next steps for the development and testing of our Outdoor Learning Toolkit. 🌱📚

The meeting is also an opportunity to coordinate our upcoming dissemination activities and ensure that the work developed through the project can reach and support a wider community of educators and learners.

From research to practice, we continue working together towards a common goal: helping educators make outdoor learning more meaningful, inclusive, safe and connected to learning objectives.

A great day of collaboration, planning and shared ideas in Leiria!

🏡Parents play a crucial role in shaping educational innovation.

As part of the LIFENAT research phase, parents shared their perceptions of outdoor learning through surveys and focus group discussions.

The results show very strong parental support for nature-based learning experiences.

Parents emphasised that outdoor activities help children:
• explore the world beyond the classroom
• develop creativity and curiosity
• build motor skills and independence
• connect learning with real-life experiences

Many parents also highlighted the positive impact of outdoor time on children’s emotional balance and wellbeing.

Importantly, most respondents expressed low levels of concern regarding safety or academic performance, suggesting a supportive environment for expanding outdoor methodologies in schools.

These insights reinforce the importance of developing educational approaches that integrate nature, wellbeing, and experiential learning.

Yesterday as MACTT we hosted NONFORMAL Multiplier Event – Malta, organised within the Erasmus+ project Non-formal Project – Non-formal education for functional literacy of the Youth.

The event brought together education professionals, stakeholders, youth workers and organisations interested in non-formal education, functional literacy, quality, recognition and lifelong learning pathways.

We were particularly honoured to welcome Kenneth Camilleri, Education Officer within the Accreditation Unit of the Directorate for Quality and Standards in Education (DQSE). His participation represented an important institutional contribution from Malta’s governmental framework for education quality and standards in relation to non-formal education.

The event also included the presentation of the NONFORMAL project by Caterina Passariello on behalf of MACTT, and a contribution by Dr. Lawrence Azzopardi, representing Malta Quality Education, on the role of quality and recognition in strengthening non-formal education pathways.

The session generated valuable exchanges of views, questions and reflections from participants, who appreciated the opportunity to discuss the role of non-formal education in supporting young people’s functional literacy and lifelong learning opportunities.

MACTT thanks all speakers, contributors and participants for their presence and active engagement.
