Today, we join the global community in celebrating World Food Day, reflecting on how knowledge, innovation and collective action can help build healthier, more sustainable food systems for future generations.

To mark the occasion, our Department is proud to share The Mediterranean Sustainable Kitchen – Volume 2!

Building on last year's initiative, this new volume continues to place emphasis on plant-forward eating. It reflects our commitment to translating nutrition science and sustainability principles into practical, everyday choices, making academic knowledge accessible to the wider community.

Developed and edited by Dr Petra Jones and Ms Melania Spiteri, supported by student Ms. Amy Agius and alumna Ms. Annah Mallia, this publication was made possible through the contributions of students and lecturers. A heartfelt thank you to everyone involved, including the Malta Food Agency for their valued collaboration.

We hope this second volume inspires you to explore new ingredients, rediscover Mediterranean flavours and make small, meaningful changes in your kitchen. Because the knowledge we share today can help shape the food choices of tomorrow. 💚

Excited to mark the start of a new COST Action (CA25139 - Building Resilient Agri-Food Systems Through Sustainable Supply Chain Innovation) and to have taken part in a very productive first Management Committee meeting in Brussels last week. It was a valuable opportunity to meet colleagues from across Europe, exchange perspectives, and begin shaping the scientific collaboration and activities that will guide the Action in the years ahead. Dr Foteini Pavli, from our department, will contribute to this initiative as a member of the Management Committee representing Malta and also as an elected Grant Awarding Coordinator of the Action, an important role in supporting the Action’s scientific networking and mobility activities.
A very promising start to what will be a productive and rewarding European collaboration.
