Creativity meets sustainability! ♻️✨

MCAST Institute of Community Services Hairdressing students and lecturers teamed up with the MCAST Institute for the Creative Arts and ERA - Environment & Resources Authority for an upcycling fashion show. Old threads became fresh looks, celebrating creativity and encouraging conscious consumption.

Celebrating research excellence at the Institute of Community Services! 🏆

At yesterday’s MCAST Research Awards, the Institute of Community Services (ICS) was represented across several award categories, recognising the achievements of our students and academic members:

🎓 Award for the Highest Mark in a Bachelor’s Dissertation in 2026
Callum Micallef — Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Sport, Exercise and Health.

🏆 Award for the Institute with Most Outstanding Research Output
ICS received this award in recognition of over 47 research submissions and contributions, reflecting our academic staff’s dedication, expertise and commitment to research excellence.

These contributions include books, book chapters, peer-reviewed articles, conference presentations, national and international projects, research collaborations and advisory roles. Spanning community services, education, health, sport and wellbeing, they connect academic knowledge with professional practice and societal impact.

🔎 Award for Research with Best Gender Dimension Consideration
Dr Beverley Abela Gatt — Critical Analysis of the script “Il-Każin tal-Imqarbin”.

💡 Award for the Best Research-led Teaching Innovation
Dr Heathcliff Schembri, as part of the SELBI team — Supporting Early Childhood Education in Blue Skills with Generative AI.

Back in September, our Early Years lecturing team at the MCAST Institute of Community Services had the opportunity to meet and collaborate with eTwinning Malta. The session was an opportunity to explore how eTwinning can be integrated into our Early Years programmes, giving our future early childhood educators opportunities to experience international collaboration, digital learning and innovative educational practices.

A big thank you to the eTwinning Malta team for welcoming us and sharing their knowledge and experiences. Looking forward to building on this collaboration and bringing new opportunities to our students!

⭐ The MCAST Research Awards 2026 will be happening tonight, as we celebrate and award the research done at MCAST throughout these years.

As we acknowledge each and every one of our researchers' contributions, tonight we will be awarding the following titles:

The Hairdressing Salon was buzzing with activity as preparations got underway for the Upcycling Fashion Show, a collaboration between MCAST and the ERA - Environment & Resources Authority. 🌿♻️

A wonderful opportunity to bring together creativity, talent and sustainability, while showcasing the skills of our students! 💚
