We are very pleased to announce that in April 2026, our colleague, Prof. Rafał Borysławski, PhD, DSc, was elected President of the International Society for the Study of Early Medieval England (ISSSEME, https://isseme.org/about/).
ISSEME, which until 2019 operated under the name of the International Society of Anglo-Saxonists. Founded in 1983, it is the largest globally research society associating scholars and scholars conducting research on the literature, history, art, archaeology, languages, religion, societies and numismatics of England in the period from about 450 to 1100 CE.
Currently, ISSEME features more than 500 active members from 20 countries and five continents, including numerous recognized authorities in the field. The selection for this prestigious position of a Polish scholar working at the Centre for Nordic and Old English Studies and at the Institute of Literary Studies of the University of Silesia is an unprecedented event in the history of ISSEME and English and Early Medieval Studies in Poland.

Mamy ogromną przyjemność poinformować, że w kwietniu 2026 nasz kolega, dr hab. prof. UŚ Rafał Borysławski został wybrany do pełnienia funkcji Prezesa (President) International Society for the Study of Early Medieval England (Międzynarodowego Towarzystwa Badań nad Wczesnośredniowieczną Anglią, ISSSEME, https://isseme.org/about/).
ISSEME, które do 2019 r. działało pod nazwą International Society of Anglo-Saxonists, to założone w 1983 r. największe w świecie towarzystwo badawcze zrzeszające uczone i uczonych, prowadzących badania nad literaturą, historią, sztuką, archeologią, językami, religią, społeczeństwami oraz numizmatyką Anglii w okresie od ok. 450 do 1100 roku n.e.
Obecnie ISSEME liczy ponad 500 aktywnych członków z 20 krajów całego świata i z pięciu kontynentów, w tym liczne uznane autorytety w tej dziedzinie. Wybór na to prestiżowe stanowisko polskiego anglisty, pracującego w Centrum Badań Nordystycznych i Staroangielskich oraz w Instytucie Literaturoznawstwa UŚ, jest wydarzeniem bezprecedensowym w historii ISSEME oraz polskich studiów anglistycznych i wczesnomediewistycznych.

We have just completed proceedings of the 4th Jómsborg Conference - two intense days of stimalating papers and lively discussions of various aspects of entertainment in the medieval North. We would like to express our deep gratitude to all the participants, helmed by our keynote speaker, Professor Viðar Pálsson, for their contributions that made the conference so special!

We are also very greateful to our partners: Wojciech Celiński and Centrum Słowian i Wikingów Wolin-Jomsborg-Vineta; Damian Chmiel and Muzeum Regionalne im. Andrzeja Kaubego w Wolinie who again offered us lavish hospitality and friendship! The conference was also an opportunity to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the Museum.

W dniach 10–11 kwietnia w Wolinie odbędzie się IV Międzynarodowa Konferencja Jomsborska: Modes of Entertainment in the Medieval North – współorganizowana przez Muzeum Regionalne im. Andrzeja Kaubego w Wolinie, Centrum Słowian i Wikingów Wolin-Jomsborg-Vineta oraz Centrum Badań Nordystycznych i Staroangielskich przy Uniwersytecie Śląskim. W wydarzeniu wezmą udział naukowcy z Polski i z zagranicy.

Serdecznie zapraszamy wszystkich zainteresowanych do udziału w konferencji – wstęp jest wolny. Jej tegoroczna edycja ma dla nas szczególne znaczenie, ponieważ wpisuje się ona w jubileusz 60-lecia wolińskiego Muzeum. Z tej okazji w programie znalazło się również wystąpienie naszego pracownika, dr. Piotra Malińskiego, który opowie o minionych latach działalności Muzeum.
