We are shaping the future of European semiconductor technologies❗️

📝 Cezamat PW - Centrum Zaawansowanych Materiałów i Technologii and CEA‑Leti – one of Europe’s leading research institutes in micro‑ and nanoelectronics – have signed a cooperation agreement. This partnership marks a concrete step toward developing cutting‑edge technologies and strengthening Europe’s technological sovereignty.

✅ The agreement establishes long‑term cooperation in microelectronics, photonics and microsystems, based on joint technology development and concrete research and development activities. The collaboration will focus in particular on the joint development and implementation of FD‑SOI technologies, the advancement of radiation‑hardened (rad‑hard) technologies, cooperation on advanced microelectronic solutions, the development of IoT technologies and their applications, and the strengthening of the position of FD‑SOI within the European ecosystem.

🎓 Damian Grabowski, an implementation doctorate student at the Warsaw University of Technology collaborating with the Łukasiewicz Research Network – Institute of Aviation (Łukasiewicz - ILOT), took part in the prestigious Caltech Space Challenge.

⚙️ This is an initiative in which participants work in teams to develop a concept for a space mission. This year’s edition, held under the theme “Journey Through Blaze and Frost”, involved designing a mission that would first perform a flyby of a comet and then enter orbit 🚀 around Venus to conduct scientific observations. Our student was a member of the Explorer team, where he worked on systems engineering and rocket propulsion.

ℹ️ The event was organised by the California Institute of Technology. Out of more than 500 applicants from around the world, only 32 participants were selected. Damian was the only Polish participant in this edition and only the second person from Poland in the history of the programme! 🔥

🌡️ Heat management is a critical issue for modern technologies. Overheating of electronic devices and energy losses in ⚡️ power systems limit their efficiency. Although we have long been able to control the flow of electric current, directional control of heat flow remains a scientific challenge.

💡 A new method for controlling heat flow is being researched at the Warsaw University of Technology. The project entitled ‘Two-dimensional van der Waals heterostructures with asymmetric heat transport’ is being carried out by a team from the Faculty of Physics (Wydział Fizyki Politechniki Warszawskiej), led by Prof. Mariusz Zdrojek.
