ACC dancers are performing in a CONVERGENCE this weekend, Oct 22-24 at 7:30pm at Texas State University in the Patti Strickel Harrison Theatre. This work represents a collaboration between TXST and ACC as part of the Bats to Cats initiative. ACC dance, drama, music, and musical theatre students had a special workshop with AMDA and Vasthy Mompoint (AMDA alum) this week. They learned some of Hot Honey Rag from Chicago and got audition pointers from Vasthy. It was a spectacular time!

Masterclass description:
Katherine will share a variety of postmodern dance and performance art practices that inform their artistic process and lineage, including compositional improvisation, deep listening, esoteric somatics, mime, and butoh.

Learn more about Katherine:
Katherine Vaughn is a dancer and performance artist from Cleveland, Ohio and based in West Texas. Their performance practice involves site-related movement, embodied presence, vulnerability, and collaborative improvisation with entities of all kinds.

Katherine has exhibited and performed throughout Texas, Mexico, Ohio and Europe. They were a resident in the SOMA summer program in Mexico City in 2025. Katherine is co-founder of DIY art space Shedshows in Austin, Texas.

Katherine graduated from University of Texas at Austin with a MFA in 2025. They currently host monthly community dance classes in Valentine and Marfa, Texas and have been earth building. Lately their daily practice involves walking and moving rocks around in the desert.

Masterclass description:
Michaella’s Contemporary Masterclass explores embodiment, deepening physicality, and developing individual artistic expression. The class includes a conditioning warm-up, guided prompt-based improvisation, floorwork, and dynamic Forza Dance repertory. Participants will be challenged wherever they are in their practice while honoring the needs and individuality of the group. If time allows, the class will conclude with an open discussion, though participants are encouraged to ask questions, share their voices, and engage in conversation throughout.

Learn more about Michaella:
Michaella Barron is a Detroit-born choreographer and Founder and Artistic Director of Forza Dance, a NYC-based organization dedicated to creating accessible, community-centered opportunities in dance. A graduate of Interlochen Arts Academy and the Ailey/Fordham BFA Program, she holds degrees in Dance and International Political Economy. Her choreographic work spans concert dance, film, and interdisciplinary performance, and has been presented at NYC venues including Teatro LATEA, Gibney Dance, Brooklyn Art Haus, and The Rose Nagelberg Theatre, as well as nationally in Texas. She has created commissioned work for Jamaica Center for Learning, Dance of Persia, Borne Dance Company, and multiple composers. Additionally, her work has been supported by NYSCA and the Gibney Community Trust. Michaella is particularly interested in collaborative processes that bring together movement, music, design, and storytelling to create dynamic worlds and experiences for audiences.
