Room inspections are right around the corner, but there is absolutely no need to stress! 🧹📋

Our RAs are here to help you live safely and comfortably, not to make you worry. To help you ace your inspection and keep your space compliant with university guidelines, here is your quick Room Inspections 101 checklist:
🧹 1. Keep it Tidy
* We do not expect your room to look like a five-star hotel, but we do need you to keep it clean and trip-free.
* Remember, a clean room is a safe and happy room!

🔌 2. Watch the Outlets
* Do not overload your plugs because too many plugs can lead to fire hazards.
* String lights: You can absolutely still have your string lights, just make sure they are LED and properly hung.

🚫 3. Leave Prohibited Items Out
* To keep everyone safe, make sure you do not have fireworks, kitchen appliances, candles, or pets in the building.
* Do not try to hide things: Trying to hide prohibited items under or on the bed will not work, as RAs will find them. Keep it simple: if it shouldn’t be here, don’t have it here!

Room inspections are simply part of keeping our campus community safe and comfortable for everyone. Keep it clean, follow the guidelines, and you will do great!

Ready to conquer laundry day without turning your favorite white sweater pink? 🧺👚

Laundry is an essential life skill, but it doesn’t have to be intimidating! Before you head to the laundry room, here is your quick Laundry 101 cheat sheet to keep your clothes looking and smelling brand new:

🎨 1. Sort Your Clothes
* Keep your whites with whites and darks with darks.
* Washing that red shirt with your whites is a quick way to turn everything pink!

🧼 2. Detergent: Less is More!
* Using too much soap will cause a suds overflow.
* Always check the instructions on your detergent container for the right amount, and make sure you pour it into the designated capsule dispenser rather than directly onto your clothes.

🌡️ 3. Choose the Right Settings
* Darks: Use cold water.
* Whites: Use warm or hot water.
* Hand Wash Only: This is code for do not put me in the machine unless you are washing by hand or using a very delicate cycle to avoid ruining the fabric.

🔥 4. Dry Safely
* Always check your clothing labels! High heat can easily shrink your favorite clothes down to toddler size.
* Clear the lint trap before starting your load. It is the best way to prevent dangerous fire hazards and ensure you get a faster, better dry!
* Don’t forget the dryer sheets, which reduce static and keep your entire load smelling incredibly fresh. (Check the box instructions to see how many sheets to use!)

Master these simple steps and you’ll be a laundry pro in no time.

Sharing a room is incredibly exciting, but it is also a major learning experience! 🎓

Want to keep your college life drama-free? Here are five essential tips to help you be a great roommate and make amazing memories this year:

💬 Tip #1 - Communicate early and often: Start the year off right by talking about your expectations. Don’t be afraid to discuss sharing snacks, quiet hours, study habits, cleaning schedules, and personal boundaries.

🤫 Tip #2 - Respect personal space and shared spaces: A little consideration goes a long way! If your roommate has a big exam coming up and needs quiet time, keep the noise down or take your conversations down to the lounge.

🧹 Tip #3 - Keep the room clean: Keeping your shared space tidy shows that you value your room and your roommate. Create a cleaning routine to stay on top of the chores together and avoid unwanted stress.

🙌🏾 Tip #4 - Be open to compromise: Living together means finding solutions that work for both of you. If one of you is freezing and the other gets hot easily, try compromising by using blankets instead of turning up the heat. It shows you care about each other’s comfort!

💛 Tip #5 - Be friendly but respect boundaries: Be supportive of your roommate, but respect their need for alone time when they are tired. Balance is everything!

Being a good roommate takes effort, but it is totally worth it. Communicate, compromise, and show respect, and you might just make a lifelong friend!

🚨 Fire Safety is Our Top Priority! 🚨

At Morgan State University, your safety comes first. When the fire alarm sounds, every second counts. Here is what you need to do to stay safe and ensure everyone is accounted for:

🚪 If the Alarm Sounds:
* Take it seriously! Always assume it is a real emergency.
* Don’t waste time gathering valuables—only grab essentials within arm’s reach.
* Close your door behind you, but do not lock it. This helps contain smoke and allows emergency teams to enter if needed.

🚶‍♀️ Evacuating the Building:
* Follow the evacuation route posted on the back of your door.
* Use the stairs only! Elevators are not safe during a fire.
* If there is smoke, stay low to avoid inhaling dangerous fumes.
* Go directly to the designated safe area outside.

📋 Once You’re Outside:
* RAs will take attendance to ensure everyone is accounted for.
* Do not re-enter the building until emergency personnel say it’s safe.
* Note: While some RAs take attendance outside, others will check randomly assigned rooms. Anyone still inside will have their name reported to the Associate Director of Student Life.

⚠️ 3 Critical Safety Tips to Keep in Mind:
1. Do not tamper with smoke detectors or fire alarms.
2. Leave prohibited items out—this includes candles, hot plates, hot combs, toasters, or anything with an open flame.
3. Report broken fire equipment or hazards to residence life staff immediately.

Let’s work together to create a safer, smarter community! 💙🧡
