Another great day at ! We loved connecting with colleagues, seeing familiar faces, and making new connections. A highlight of the day was our SOPH alumni and friends reception. It was so nice bringing our UAB public health community together to catch up and spend time with one another. So much Blazer pride in San Antonio!

Day 1 of is in the books!

Between presentation halls and poster sessions, it was a great first day. We loved connecting with everyone who stopped by to chat and meet with our team. Catching the Texas sunset at the end of the day was a great bonus.

Breaking news: UAB has accepted an invitation to join the Association of American Universities, securing UAB’s place among the most prominent and impactful institutions of higher education and research in the United States and Canada. UAB is the first and only AAU member in Alabama.

The AAU last added members in 2023 and, with the addition of UAB and Georgetown University this week, has 73 members on the edge of innovation, scholarship and solutions that contribute to scientific progress, economic development, security and well-being.

We are proud to see students in the UAB School of Public Health's DrPH Preparedness Leadership program gaining hands-on experience through the 11th Annual Tribal Nations Training Week at FEMA's Center for Domestic Preparedness. Students completed advanced training in healthcare leadership, disaster preparedness, and emergency response while learning alongside tribal leaders, healthcare professionals, emergency managers, and first responders from across the country.

The experience reflects the program's commitment to combining doctoral education with real-world preparedness practice. As Elayne Wilson, PhD, Program Director for the DrPH Concentration, noted, the program "combines rigorous doctoral education with applied experiences in operational readiness and response," helping students develop the skills needed to lead during complex public health emergencies.

Congratulations to our students and faculty for continuing to build leadership capacity in preparedness and emergency response!
