Title: "Film Beyond the Screen: How Christians Can Use Movies to Interact with Culture"

Date & Time: Tuesday, Oct. 20, 7:00-8:30 PM

Location: Champaign Public Library, Room 215 Friends.

Description: Film is often at the center of culture, reflecting the current time and place and offering critiques or echo chambers. But how can Christians engage with film in meaningful ways while remaining discerning? This talk offers a typology of the different ways Christians can engage with film, providing a practical approach to enter the cultural conversation.

Dr. Emily Wenneborg will be giving a lecture called “(Too) Many Streams: Spirituality and Media in a Pluralistic Age” On Sept 29 from 7-8:30 PM at Champaign Public Library in room A-B. The description of the talk is: "The first decades of the twenty-first century have been marked by an explosion both of online content and of spiritual and religious alternatives. How does the infinitely scrollable and streamable Internet help us understand the spiritual 'nova effect' (in philosopher Charles Taylor’s term), and vice versa?" We hope you can join us!

While the semester started last week, This fall Urbana Seminary is offering three classes that will not start until midterm--so there is plenty of time to still register for these classes! Two are eight week classes; one is a one-weekend class. The first one we are announcing is Dr. Pearce Durst's Preachers on Screen, which explores how the presentation of Pastors in film shapes our understanding of what a pastor is, what a pastor does, and what we should think about them.
