🚨 SCAM ALERT 🚨

UTC Police Department is warning our community about a scam involving callers impersonating the UTC Police Department.

This week, we received numerous reports of scammers claiming to be UTC Police Officers. The callers falsely stated that a student had been detained and demanded payment over the phone for the student’s release.

Remember:
• Hang up if you receive a suspicious call.
• Contact your student directly to verify their safety.
• UTCPD will never demand payment to release a student.
• Report suspicious calls to us by calling (423) 425-HELP/4357.

Scammers often create a sense of urgency to pressure victims into acting quickly. If something doesn’t seem right, pause, verify the information independently, and never provide personal, financial, or payment information.

Please help us protect our campus community by sharing this information with students, parents, families, and friends.

This week, UTC Police Department officers put their driving skills to the test during our annual Emergency Vehicle Operator Course (EVOC), alongside our partners at the Collegedale Police Department.

EVOC prepares officers to safely respond when every second counts. This specialized training, required annually in Tennessee under the Vanessa K. Free Emergency Services Training Act of 2005, helps ensure officers can protect the community while reducing risks to everyone on the road.

A special thank you to Sgt. Abazid, Cpl. Dockery, and Collegedale Officer Saxe for leading this year’s training and helping our officers stay prepared. 🚔

Giving back to our community, one bike at a time. 🚲

In June, donated 19 unclaimed bicycles to . Rather than allowing these bicycles to go unused, White Oak Bicycle Co-op will refurbish as many as possible and provide them to children for recreation and to adults who need reliable transportation.

This partnership is already making a difference. On June 19th, a student had their bicycle stolen. While our officers identified the suspect, their bicycle could not be recovered. Through our partnership, White Oak Bicycle Co-op is working with us to provide the student with a refurbished bicycle so they can get back on the road.

We’re grateful for community partners like , whose work helps reduce waste and supports those in need!
