🌿📚 Celebrating a New Book by One of Our Own! 📚🌿

We’re excited to celebrate the publication of Catawba Nation Ethnobotany by Dr. Robert Carter, one of our talented agents and a dedicated researcher, educator, and advocate for connecting people with the natural world.

This fascinating book explores the deep relationship between the Catawba Indian Nation — Ye Iswa, the “People of the River” — and the land they have called home for more than 14,000 years. Dr. Carter’s research documents the many ways Catawba people traditionally used plants, offering an important look into Indigenous knowledge, culture, and the natural resources that have been part of Catawba life for generations. 🌱

We’re proud to see one of our agents bring this important work to readers and help preserve and share knowledge that deserves to be remembered.

👏 Congratulations, Dr. Robert Carter, on this wonderful accomplishment!

South Carolina was proud to host the National Wildlife Habitat Education Program (WHEP) competition this year! 🦌🌿

For the first time in 28 years, youth from across the country gathered in South Carolina to put their wildlife knowledge and habitat management skills to the test—and our home-state teams made us proud!

🏆 Pendleton High School captured its sixth consecutive national FFA championship, with Cooper Lindley earning first place nationally as an individual.
From hands-on competition to exploring South Carolina’s coastal habitats, the event showcased the importance of connecting youth with wildlife, conservation and the natural resources around them.

We’re proud of the Clemson Extension team and all of the partners who helped bring this national event to South Carolina!

Welcome aboard, Collin!

Thanks to Clemson Extension and FNR | Clemson Extension we now have a student intern for the fall semester. Collin Holt is an AgMech student who participated in one of our portable sawmill workshops before.

We already put him to work to build a new picnic table for our chainsaw and portable sawmill programs.

Great reminder to be on the lookout for the invasive Asian longhorned beetle (ALB)!

Early detection is key to protecting South Carolina’s trees and forests. Take a moment to learn what ALB looks like and the signs of an infestation—and if you spot something suspicious, be sure to report it.
