✨🏆✨Congratulations to The Echo, UCA Scroll, and News6 UCA. These media outlets won over 90 awards at the 2026 Arkansas College Media Association Awards hosted at Arkansas Tech April 10th. The Echo won 1st place for Newspaper of the Year, with news editor Mary Lyle winning Reporter of the Year and campus life editor Meredith Lipsey winning Photographer of the Year. Overall, The Echo won 28 awards in the newspaper category and 20 awards for their Bear Media online work. News6 won 1st place in TV Station of the Year and 16 overall awards in the television category. The Scroll won 3rd place in Yearbook of the Year, garnering 19 overall awards in that category. CAHSS is proud of the community outreach that Dr. Crystal Harris and her students from the UCA School of Language and Literature are doing. Check out the contributions they made to the Pine Street CommUnity Museum. The museum exists to document the history of those who lived, worked, worshipped and were educated in the Pine Street neighborhood. The museum is located at 1270 Factory St.

Congratulations to UCA School of Language and Literature faculty members, Dr. Jennifer Parrack (Associate Professor of Spanish) and Dr. Adele Okoli (Associate Professor of French), who presented on experiential learning and community engagement at the annual Engaged Arkansas Conference at the University of Arkansas, Fayetteville. EDGE Student worker and community mentor Malie Phimmachack, from EDGE Living Learning Community, was also a part of the presentation.

From UCA to Cusco, Peru! Dr. Suzanne Johnston and her students in TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) are enjoying UCA Study Abroad through their partnership with Maximo Nivel. The UCA School of Language and Literature group also discovered the art of chocolate making at the iconic ChocoMuseo, with a "Bean to Bar" Workshop. During their four week, 150-hour course, participants are becoming familiar with the principles of successful EFL teaching and developing practical skills needed to teach English effectively in foreign countries. Poetry was in the air this spring. We congratulate the winners of the recent SLANT and Vortex Poetry competition: Caroline Young (1st place), Landis Luke (2nd place, English major) and Maria Conejo (3rd place)! The contest was open to all undergraduate students at UCA. We also congratulate English minor Caleb Givens. His poem "Love's Greatest Cost" was awarded the third honorable mention prize in the Poets’ Roundtable of Arkansas poetry contest! Thanks to the UCA School of Language and Literature for the fabulous news and photos!

After a highly successful French Film Festival this spring, organizer and Associate Professor of French, Dr. Okoli, has secured an Albertine Cinémathèque Grant to bring it back again next year! Thanks to Dr. Okoli and the numerous presenters, collaborators, and attendees that made this event possible.
