Favorite thing about UCO Mass Communication: Mass Comm feels like a community. The people that you meet in Mass Comm, both classmates or professors, you get to know them personally and as friends!

Full Name: Wander Villalobo

Major/minors: Photographic arts
Hobbies: Soccer, Sand Volleyball
Favorite Drink: Diet Coke
Fun Fact: Im Argentinian and Bolivian but lived in Queens, NYC for 13 years before moving to OKC in 2018.

Favorite thing about your major or the university: I am already working doing product photography, but my job offered me the option to get a bachelor’s degree on it. I was a college dropout but I decided to go back to school to learn to be a better photographer. I love photography so I couldn’t say no, getting on this program is something I’ll never regret!

On October 7, students, faculty, and industry leaders packed MCOM Room 120 for an incredible day of conversations exploring the intersection of artificial intelligence, journalism, education, and the future of communication during this year’s Can the Artificial be Ethical?.

Sessions ranged from discussions on data centers, forecasting the future in meteorology, and navigating burnout in the age of AI, our speakers brought essential insights into the challenges facing today’s media landscape.

Special thanks goes out to MCOM Media Ethics Chair Daniel Thompson and his students in the Conference Planning class for planning and putting on the event this year.

Get to know our student of the Week, Carlos O. Lira Juárez!
Major & Minor: Organizational Communications major, Visual Media minor

Hobbies: I love spending time with my two dogs and my family, exploring new places, and trying new restaurants and foods that are a little outside my comfort zone.

Favorite Drink: Hibiscus lemonade from Tapioca Lounge

Fun Fact: My watch list is always growing, and I’m always finding new shows to get into, especially true crime docuseries/ documentaries based on real events like Hulu originals, and Latino and American reality TV shows.

Favorite Thing About MCOM at UCO: My favorite thing about UCO’s MCOM program is getting to bring my creative ideas and vision to life with my classmates through events, campaigns, and different projects. I’ve also enjoyed learning new skills like podcasting and photography, while having professors who encourage us to keep growing, exploring, and trying new things.
