The ENLACE Global Health Elective: Latin America, El Salvador is designed to immerse Phase 3 Indiana University School of Medicine students in a 4-week international global health experience in a developing country.

Participants will undergo an introduction to global health issues and policies; begin to think critically about ethics in global health volunteerism; examine global health challenges and compare and contrast the systematic, policy and experiential differences between health care in the US and El Salvador. This elective offers an immersive clinical experience in El Salvador, emphasizing ethical engagement and sustainable collaboration. Unlike traditional brigade models, the ENLACE Global Health model avoids creating dependencies or undermining local healthcare systems. By partnering with local agencies and fostering critical reflection, students gain insight into the impact of their involvement in the community.
