Inspired by fond memories of his experience as a communication studies major at Iowa in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences at Iowa and proud member of the University of Iowa Hawkeye Marching Band, Icenogle composed the piece in collaboration with longtime music production partner Lior Rosner and recorded it with a full orchestra in L.A. this summer.

Ten years ago, three University of Iowa arts buildings opened with great fanfare, marking a major milestone in the university’s recovery from the devastating 2008 flood. Together, the buildings represented more than a return to campus; they sparked a new era for the arts at Iowa.

COMING SOON: 🎼 "Ode to Voxman,” a new work composed by composer, music producer, actor, and UI alumnus Scott Icenogle! He will premiere the full recording of his original composition at the Voxman 10th Anniversary Celebration event on Thursday, Oct. 29, 2026. (https://events.uiowa.edu/event/38417)

Icenogle, a 1991 College of Liberal Arts and Sciences at Iowa Communication Studies graduate and proud University of Iowa Hawkeye Marching Band alum, transformed his fond UI memories into “Ode to Voxman,” an orchestral work inspired by the university where two interests that once occupied different parts of his life—communication and music—began developing side by side.

Scott composed the piece in collaboration with his longtime music production partner Lior Rosner to commemorate Voxman's 10-year milestone.

Hee-hee-hee-hee, it's opening night 🎭 🎶

Not all fairy tales are sweet. Our Halloween-inspired Hänsel und Gretel embraces the darker side of the story, exploring greed, deception, and the dangers lurking beneath what appears to be a delightful treat 🍬

10/15/2026

Hänsel und Gretel opens tomorrow at the Coralville Center for the Performing Arts! Performed in German, this production explores the classic Grimm tale through a haunting new lens.

Make sure you get your tickets to watch this sickly sweet opera 🍬

In 1933, Eleanor Roosevelt asked Americans to write to her ✉️ Women across the country answered, and some of them sent songs 🎶

“Ordinary women were so inspired by Mrs. Roosevelt’s advocacy for them that they felt compelled to write songs for her,” says Prof. Marian Wilson Kimber.

“Eleanor Waltzes” put that forgotten music back on stage. There was a Depression-era lament called “The Housewife’s Blues,” and a tribute named for the First Lady’s own newspaper column, “My Day” 📰 Guests then browsed treasures from the Iowa Women’s Archives and sampled “Making Do” recipes from the 1930s 🥧, all while raising donations for the CommUnity Crisis Services Food Bank.

👏 Bravo to Sarah Hachtman (2024 MA and DMA candidate), soprano; Caleb Estrada-Valentín (2023 MA), flute; Katie Forbush (2026 DMA), cello; alumni Halie Augustus (2026 DMA), piano, and Rachel Walter (2026 DMA), violin; and reciters Wendi Griffiths (student) and Marian Wilson Kimber.
