Statement from COGS on the recent seizure and deportation of our neighbor and fellow worker, Fatou Traore. We encourage all our members and supporters to stand with Fatou and her family as they challenge her deportation to Sierra Leone.

Join us on Tuesday for our next General Membership Meeting! We’ll recap the recertification election, introduce our Contact Action Team (and how you can join it!), and learn about what’s to come in bargaining season. October 27th, 6PM at the COGS Office (120 N. Dubuque St., the Wesley Center/Artifactort Building)

🚨 IT’S OUR LAST CHANCE TO VOTE YES TO RECERTIFY OUR UNION! 🚨 The recertification election closes tomorrow, 10/27 at 9 AM. With contract bargaining season right around the corner, we need to show Iowa that us grad workers are a united front who demand better workplace conditions. Together, we will organize to win higher wages, fee elimination, better protections for international workers, and more. The university works because we do! ✊⚙️

⚠️ CAUTION: No vote = a “NO” vote! If you do not cast a vote in the recertification election, you are counted as voting NO! And voting no means grad workers get NO SAY in how we are treated by our employer, leaving us vulnerable to exploitation and unfair working environments.

Seems like the anti-labor lawmakers are hoping we’ll forget to vote to recertify COGS, doesn’t it? Grad workers may be busy keeping classes and research going at UIowa, but we know better! Vote YES today, remind your friends, and tell your Count Captain! Let’s remind Iowa: the university works because WE do! ✊⚙️

📢 ATTENTION GRAD WORKERS! RECERTIFICATION 2026 IS HERE! ‼️ Because of Iowa’s anti-worker labor laws, we are forced to vote to recertify our union every two years. From October 13-27th, grad workers must VOTE YES to keep COGS. Recertifying our union means we get to continue fighting together for a better workplace! ✊⚙️
