Congratulations to Professor John Manak in the University of Iowa Department of Biology who was recently honored with a Friend of Systems Unlimited Award for his advocacy and community engagement work.

Two new Department of Biology faculty members are advancing research that could improve understanding of hearing loss and neurodevelopmental disorders.

Assistant Professor Cathy Yea Won Sung (left), supported by the National Institutes of Health, studies how immune cells in the inner ear contribute to hearing loss caused by medications such as chemotherapy drugs.

Assistant Professor Anne Martin (right) research focuses on how the brain forms early neural connections and how disruptions in those processes may relate to neurodevelopmental disorders. Her work recently received funding from the Roy J. Carver Charitable Trust.
