Dr. Eric Dishongh is a Professor in the School of Education & Human Services, and he teaches in the PhD and MA programs in Marriage & Family Therapy and Professional Counseling. Dr. Dishongh earned his PhD in Marriage and Family Therapy from Amridge University in 2009. His dissertation is titled, "Appreciative Christian Therapy: A Theological Paradigm to Facilitate Positive Change in Couples."
In 2025, Dr. Dishongh was appointed by Louisiana Governor Jeff Landry to the LPC Board of Examiners and currently serves as Vice Chair. Dr. Dishongh also serves as minister for the Hickory Knoll Church of Christ in New Orleans. He is also a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in Louisiana, and he owns a private practice and oversees a nonprofit community based counseling center.
As a faculty member at Amridge since 2011, Dr. Dishongh brings his experiences to the classroom as a minister, LPC, and community leader. He teaches Quality Practice & Fiscal Systems, Relational Sexual Therapy, Synthesis of Counseling & Psychotherapy Theories, Community & Social Systems, and Human Sexual Development. He also facilitates the Qualifying Exam in Professional Counseling and serves on several doctoral dissertation committees.
