We are pleased to announce that applications are now being accepted for fee waivers and/or travel support to attend the 13th U.S. Symposium on Harmful Algae. Funding is provided by NOAA NCCOS and is intended to help defray travel costs for two groups of program participants:

- U.S.-based graduate students and postdoctoral researchers
- Public health and resource managers, particularly those from state, local, and tribal agencies who would otherwise be unable to attend

It’s always about the swag! 🏀

Katy Serafin ’08 stopped by the office to receive her #25 game jersey during her recent visit to campus. Katy—now Assistant Professor of Geography at the University of Florida—returned to Connecticut College to receive the Goodwin-Niering Center for the Environment (GNCE) Alumni Environmental Achievement Award and deliver the Jean Thomas Lambert ’45 Keynote Opening Lecture.

Her talk, “How Waves, Tides, and Rivers Combine to Shape Coastal Hazards and Why It Matters,” was part of the GNCE 2026 Lear-Conant Environmental Symposium on Sea Level Rise: Measurement, Understanding, Adaptation.

For Earth Day, we wanted to highlight the people that are the doers, researchers, dancers, musicians & more. Tomorrow our senior class will present their Senior Integrative Projects & you're invited to join us!

The culmination of their time in the center - these projects are varied and unique, yet bound by the common thread of environmental action coupled with love and respect for our planet.

It's GO TIME! 👏 Almost.
Next Thursday, 4/23 is the big day for our seniors as they present their Senior Integrative Projects. It started with an idea as they applied to the center. We ask what their passions are - what environmental question or topic they'd like to take an interdisciplinary deep dive into. Their answers have transformed from a proposal answer, into projects that have taken them into research labs, internships, classrooms, studios, parks, public spaces & beyond.

We are so incredibly excited for Paloma!!! If you meet her - you instantly understand that she is a force of nature herself, so it only makes sense that she feels such a deep connection to our natural world. Go do the things, Paloma! We can't wait to hear all about it ❤️🌳🌎

Paloma Doyle ’26, a botany major, art minor and scholar in the Goodwin-Niering Center for the Environment from Austin, Texas, has been awarded a Thomas J. Watson Fellowship to embark on a year of international exploration and discovery.

As one of 40 graduating seniors named to the 58th class of Watson fellows, Doyle will receive $40,000 to explore urban forestry around the world.
