We had a wonderful turnout at the second annual Beauty of Understanding Showcase and Reception tonight. Attendees included Notre Dame alumni from the Class of 1956!
The Beauty of Understanding was inspired by Notre Dame Ph.D. candidate Amandhi Mathews. During a time when she was struggling to find meaning in her work, a seminar challenged her to consider the role of beauty in scientific discovery. The idea transformed her perspective and inspired her to share it with fellow graduate students. From that spark, the Beauty of Understanding was born.
This year, 21 graduate students and postdoctoral scholars shared what they find beautiful in their research, scholarship, and creative work. Exhibits ranged from artistic portraits of zebrafish and insects to a segment from a capstone choral recital, revealing the beauty that can be found across disciplines.
We’ll be sharing interviews, photos, and a feature story about the event in the days ahead.
