Join the UNO flute studio TONIGHT for their fall studio recital at 7:30pm in the Concert Hall! The program will feature the music they performed at the recent FNMC New Musiiic Festival in Oklahoma alongside selections by Tylman Susato performed on recorders.

The concert will conclude with a special encore performance of Juri Seo's eipc "Birds, Bees, Electric Fish" for 2 flutes and 2 percussion.

UNO Flute Studio Takes Venter Stage at 2026 FNMC New Music Festival in OK

Five students from the UNO Flute Studio traveled to Oklahoma from October 23–25, to participate in the 2026 FNMC New Music Festival, culminating in a featured performance on the festival’s Saturday evening Gala Concert. UNO flutists Grace Dixon, Leah Retelsdorf, Gianna Sampson, and George Wirth showcased their musicianship with an energetic performance of Ascension (2025) for flute quartet by Christian Glascock....

ABOUT THE GUEST ARTIST/SPEAKER:

Flutes, Gemeinhardt Flutes, Mollard Conducting Batons, Burkart Flutes. P. Mauriat, Pettry Piccolos, Straubinger Flutes, Flute Center of NY, and Moscow Flute Center.

As a speaker, she was active in the inception of The Juilliard School's Entrepreneurship program as one of their first Resident Entrepreneurs, and she has been giving lectures and workshops to students and graduates of all arts disciplines at Juilliard, New York University, Penn State University, University of Iowa, Butler University, West Virginia University, University of Alabama, West Chester University, University of Missouri, University of South Carolina, Texas Flute Festival, Iowa Flute Intensive, Tampere Flute Festival, Panamá Flute Festival, Flute Association of Serbia, Music Academy of Split (Croatia), The 21st Century Flutist (Italy), The National Flute Association, and at music stores and high schools throughout the USA and abroad. UNO Professor and Student Inducted Into Nebraska Music Hall of Fame

As part of the group “Yesterday and Today,” Dr. Darren Pettit (UNO School of Music faculty) and Ciaran McGuigan (current UNO School of Music student) were inducted into the Nebraska Music Hall of Fame on Sunday Sept 27.

Yesterday and Today: The Interactive Beatles Experience has captivated audiences across the country since its debut in 2007. The McGuigan Brothers, Billy, Matthew, and Ryan, perform alongside their talented band: Brandon Bakke on drums, Aaron Slagle on guitar, Darren Pettit on saxophone and keys, and Ciaran McGuigan on guitar and vocals. Together, they continue to offer audiences a celebration of music, memories, and connection that transcends the typical tribute experience.

This is a huge honor for both of them, and the entire UNO School of Music faculty, staff, and student body congratulate Dr. Pettit and Ciaran for their accomplishments!
