The Department of Agriculture at Eastern Kentucky University. "Food, Energy and a Livable Planet" The following are the goals of the IACUC:

The Department of Agriculture offers degrees and certificates in Agriculture and Horticulture:

•Landscape and Nursery
•Turf Management
•Agribusiness Management
•Agricultural Systems Management
•Agronomy, Soils & Natural Resources
•Animal Science
•Agriculture Education
•Pre-Veterinary Medicine. Eastern Kentucky University cares for its animals (including laboratory animals and livestock) following international welfare guidelines. The University also operates under the guidance from the Office of Laboratory Animal Welfare (OLAW) under policy number: A4575-01. The mission of the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) is to promote and safeguard activities that involve animals within the academic community. The IACUC is a University committee composed of faculty members who are appointed by the institution, a veterinarian, and a community representative. The Committee is responsible for reviewing all activities involving the use of vertebrate animals, regardless of the source of funding for the activity. To promote quality research and scholarship
2. To evaluate and review all activities involving the use of vertebrate animals and make recommendations regarding these studies
3. To offer assistance in educating the campus on requirements of the University's animal care and use program

Meet the EKU Collegiate Livestock Judging Team!

We are so excited to introduce ourselves as the first ever Collegiate Livestock Judging Team at Eastern Kentucky University!

We are extremely proud to be starting something new here at EKU and hope to build a program that will continue to grow for years to come!

Being a brand new team, we are starting from scratch. We don’t have past team members or alumni to lean on for support like many other established judging teams do. We are just a group of young agriculturists who have a passion for the livestock industry and want to continue learning and making a difference in agriculture.

With that being said, we would love to have the support of our community! Whether that’s through sponsorships, donations, or simply sharing our page and helping us get our name out there, any support would mean so much to us!

We have some big goals for this team and are excited for the opportunities ahead of us. We would love for everyone to follow along and be part of this journey!

Please help us spread the word by liking, following, and sharing our page! We appreciate everyone who has already supported us and can’t wait to see what the future holds!

Thank you to Mrs. Taylor Harrison for speaking to the Professional Skills Development class on being an Ag Teacher! Mrs. Harrison kicked off the series of guest speakers allowing students some insight into career possibilities.

Come support our students who have been working hard preparing for the little NAILE show!

It’s about time we post about our biggest event of the year! 🐄🐖🐑 Join us on October 31st at 9am for our Little NAILE where students are showing a dairy heifer, hog, or ewe! Our students have worked for weeks in preparation for this show and would love all the support to match their hard work! I’ve also heard we will get the chance to see some animals in costumes 🎃

Following the show, a chili cook-off will be hosted with more details to come!!

Join us for a day of fun, animals, food, and even get the chance to win some amazing raffle baskets!
