Happy Pollinator Week! ๐Ÿ๐ŸŒธ

Did you know UWRF is a Bee Campus USA affiliate? Through efforts to expand native plantings, pollinator-friendly landscapes, reduced pesticide use, volunteer stewardship projects, and educational programs, we're helping create a campus that supports bees, butterflies, and other important pollinators.

Take a walk around campus and see how many pollinator-friendly gardens and native plant areas you can spot!

Learning by doing: Freshwater Collaborative immerses students in field, water and lab activities

UWRF senior Alex Pazdernik, left, works with Erin Berns-Herrboldt, UW-Green Bay assistant professor of water science, right, during Freshwater Collaborative fieldwork Tuesday on the Mississippi River near Red Wing, Minn. Pazdernik is one of 12 students from both Wisconsin and Minnesota enrolled in the summer lab and field techniques course. UWRFโ€™s Plant and Earth Science Department faculty and staff, Bahar Hassanpour and Heather Davis, lead the program, with additional researchers like Berns-Herrboldt joining in the student training. Later in July, more students will participate in the DAM Crew, which focuses on activities in the Kinnickinnic River.

The end of the semester Don't Throw It, Donate It move out collection program was a success again this year! In fact, this was almost the highest volume year!

Thank you to all of the students who chose to donate instead of throwing items into the dumpsters, the volunteers who helped make this program possible, and our community partners!

Last fall, student (and now graduate!) Lindee Hermes put together a management plan for a rain garden located on the corner of S. Main St and Broadway St.

Students helped with seasonal maintenance of the rain garden a couple weeks ago through a volunteer project to start implementing Lindee's plan.

Thank you to Lindee, the student volunteers, Angela Whitaker for coordinating, and the River Falls Housing Authority!

Congratulations to graduate Autumn Frederick
