A great day for Cherokee County and the Upstate!

Spartanburg Community College President Dr. Michael Mikota, Vice President of Community Impact/Chief of Staff Amanda Painter, and Director of Industry Partnerships Derek Horne joined First Solar to celebrate the ribbon cutting of its new Cherokee County facility, an approximately $330 million investment expected to create more than 600 jobs in our region.

SCC is proud to partner with First Solar to help build the skilled workforce that will support this tremendous investment. Our collaboration is connecting education with real-world industry needs through technical, hands-on training designed to prepare individuals for successful careers in advanced manufacturing.

This is what meaningful partnership looks like: investment, education, workforce development, and opportunity coming together to strengthen our communities and advance our region.

Congratulations to First Solar on this exciting milestone. SCC is proud to be part of what comes next!

A new chapter is taking shape in Cherokee County. Spartanburg Community College was proud to join community, business and government leaders in welcoming USA Rare Earth to Blacksburg as the company broke ground on its new facility.

With an approximately $1.2 billion investment and nearly 500 skilled manufacturing jobs expected, this project represents new opportunities for individuals, families and communities across the region.

SCC is proud to partner with USA Rare Earth to help build the skilled talent pipeline needed for these careers and support the continued growth of Cherokee County.

We were also honored to receive a $250,000 donation from USA Rare Earth in support of the College. We are grateful for their investment in SCC and their commitment to our community.

Together, we’re creating pathways to opportunity and helping ensure that our region’s workforce is ready for what’s next.
