UKZN Hosted 2026 Forum of Short Learning Programmes
The University of KwaZulu-Natal (UKZN) hosted the 2026 Forum of Short Learning Programmes (FSLP) from 30 September to 1 October 2026, bringing together higher education leaders, experts and partners to reflect on the future of flexible learning.
Held under the theme “New Pathways: Perils and Opportunities for Learning and Quality Assurance,” the two-day forum explored the evolving landscape of Short Learning Programmes, micro-credentials and quality assurance in South Africa.
Convened by UKZN’s Graduate School of Business and Leadership (GSB&L) in partnership with Stellenbosch University and the University of the Free State, the forum provided a platform for dialogue, knowledge-sharing and collaboration around emerging pathways in higher education.
The programme featured thought-provoking contributions from Professor Serestina Viriri, Executive Dean and Head of GSB&L; Professor Thabo Msibi, UKZN Deputy Vice-Chancellor: Teaching and Learning and Chairperson of Umalusi; Dr Whitfield Green, Chief Executive Officer of the Council on Higher Education; Professor Petro du Preez, Extraordinary Professor: Assessment Practices at Stellenbosch University and Quality Project Manager at Durban University of Technology; Professor Karen Ferreira-Meyers, Coordinator of Teaching and Learning at the Centre for Excellence in Learning and Teaching at the University of Eswatini (UNESWA) and Professor Wayne Hugo, UKZN.
Following the first day of robust deliberations and engaging discussions, delegates were treated to warm Durban hospitality at a special cocktail function held inside the aquarium at uShaka Marine World.
The 2026 FSLP created valuable opportunities to connect people, share ideas and strengthen collaboration around the future of learning, quality and innovation in higher education.
