Heads down on the Holiday Hamper brief. 💡

Our Beyond Borders students spent yesterday in their groups, working on the task set with the Carmen Stevens Foundation. Students from Hogeschool UCLL and IMM Graduate School on mixed teams, working out how to get from an idea to something that holds up.

Dr Ernst van Biljon presented “From donation to dinner table: Trade, logistics and supply chains in Africa, and the case of the Holiday Hamper” to our Beyond Borders students yesterday. 🌍

What does it take to move a donation through to a meal on someone’s table? That’s the question behind the Holiday Hamper task they’re working on this week with the Carmen Stevens Foundation, and yesterday gave them the supply chain side of the answer.

Yesterday, the day ended at Koelenhof with a tour of the w**e cellar and a traditional South African braai.

New friendships, fresh perspectives and a shared sense of purpose. This is Beyond Borders 2026!

Koelenhof Director Bertie Cloete spoke about how much the business depends on supply chain and, in particular, on marketing to succeed. A useful reminder for the students that what they are studying sits behind every business, including this one.

Plenty more to come tomorrow. We’ll be sharing their week as it goes.

Beyond Borders 2026 is under way. 🌍

Our Hogeschool UCLL and IMM Graduate School students started yesterday with an orientation session in Stellenbosch, followed by a briefing with the Carmen Stevens Foundation that introduced the community project at the heart of their week.

Their enthusiasm for the Foundation’s donor outreach project is particularly encouraging. Working together across borders, they’ll put their marketing and communication skills into practice by identifying potential donors, developing appeals and seeking support for the Foundation’s work.
