DIGITAL HUMANITIES CLUSTER SUMMIT 2026 | REGISTER & JOIN US

How do we shape the future of Digital Humanities in South Africa—and ensure that Africa’s knowledge systems, languages, histories and communities remain at the centre of that future?

The inaugural Digital Humanities Cluster Summit 2026 brings together researchers, educators, students, institutional leaders, practitioners and policymakers for a national working gathering focused on building a shared vision for Digital Humanities in South Africa.

From 7–9 October 2026, thematic working groups will engage critical areas including the definition and contextualisation of DH, curriculum development, postgraduate programmes, public humanities, Africanisation and decolonisation, Indigenous Knowledge Systems, digital media, preservation and archives, evaluation frameworks, and policy engagement.

A key outcome of the Summit will be the development of a National Framework for Digital Humanities in Africa—working towards an Africa-centred DH ecosystem grounded in African epistemologies and responsive to our educational and research realities.

The Advancing African Digital Humanities Ideation Hub (BAOBABX) at the College of Human Sciences, University of South Africa (UNISA) invites academics, researchers, students, practitioners, and community leaders to an engaging and thought-provoking workshop:

The Third Harmony: Nonviolence, Communication, and Human Flourishing in the Digital Age

Facilitated by internationally renowned scholar and peace activist Dr Francesca Po (DPhil, University of Oxford), this interactive workshop explores how the principles of nonviolence and Nonviolent Communication (NVC) can help foster empathy, constructive dialogue, conflict transformation, and human flourishing in an increasingly digital world.

Participants will:
✅ Explore the foundations of Nonviolent Communication developed by Marshall Rosenberg
✅ Engage with resources from the Metta Centre for Nonviolence
✅ Participate in experiential learning activities, reflection, and collaborative discussion
✅ View and discuss the acclaimed documentary ***The Third Harmony
