Congratulations to Prof Craig McGregor on being awarded the University of St Andrews' Global Fellowship (Practice) for 2027.

Selected as one of only two recipients, the fellowship recognises his international impact in engineering and industry and will support a new collaboration focused on clean energy research and long-duration energy storage.

In the 2027 version of the QS WUR, SU is ranked 296 overall in the world, improving on last year’s position of 302. SU occupies third place in South Africa (and in Africa) – the same as last year – and is also the leading university in citations per faculty in South Africa, and second in academic reputation.

Preparing future engineers means developing more than technical expertise.

First-year students concluded their ICC113 module with a conference-style poster and simulated investment activity, creating an authentic and engaging learning experience.

Working in teams, they explored real-world engineering linked to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (hashtag ) and presented their findings to invited guests who acted as investors.

𝗜𝗖𝗖𝟭𝟭𝟯 𝗣𝗼𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗗𝗮𝘆

Our first-year engineering students are bringing their Intercultural Communication projects to life - tackling real-world challenges linked to the Sustainable Development Goals.

But this isn’t just a poster session. The room becomes an interactive space where students pitch their ideas to “investors”, explain the problems they’re addressing, who it impacts, and defend their thinking through real conversations and questions.

It’s a powerful, hands-on experience that builds communication, confidence, and global awareness. Let’s give them a well-deserved round of applause 👏
