From March 11–15, 2026, the 51st International Exhibition of Inventions of Geneva took place in Switzerland. As one of the world’s top three invention fairs, the event featured over 1,000 inventions from nearly 35 countries and regions. HKCRC projects stood out for their technological innovation and commercial potential, winning 2 gold and 3 silver medals.

Gold Medal Projects:

• Smart Water Tank Cleaning Robot: Replaces manual work in confined spaces, ensuring water safety and worker health.
• Modular Universal High-Altitude Work Robot: Flexible for drilling, installation, spraying, and other high-altitude tasks.

Silver Medal Projects

• Layra AI: Integrates large language models and optimization engines for a seamless design-to-implementation process.
• STRUCTSENSE 3D: Provides millimeter-level real-time measurement, defect detection, and scene analysis.
• AI Tower Crane System: Deployed on multiple Hong Kong construction sites as a benchmark for smart site management.

The Cross-Border Home Decoration Tech Innovation Bootcamp, organized by the Hong Kong Center for Construction Robotics (HKCRC), has successfully concluded. This intensive, 4-day journey brought together a cohort of innovators from diverse backgrounds – from engineers and designers to entrepreneurs – who stepped up to tackle one core mission: to redefine the future of home spaces with smart, cross-border solutions.

Day 1: Insight & Launch

Participants gained a macro understanding of the cross-border home decoration industry through expert case studies on trends, architectural aesthetics, and supply chain localization. This laid a practical foundation for the innovation to come.

Day 2: Research & Exchange

The journey included a visit to XBotPark and the smart construction exhibition hall and the Habitat Smart Home in Shenzhen, immersing teams in a "car-building approach to home-building." A highlight was an open dialogue with Professor Li Zexiang, who shared invaluable insights from product conception to entrepreneurial mindset.

Day 3: Definition & Creation

Real-world cross-border experiences took center stage. Founders shared crowdfunding stories and the challenges of launching hardware products overseas. Guided by design thinking methodologies, teams then refined their raw ideas into concrete, user-centric product concepts.

Day 4: Presentation & New Beginnings

The final day was a full sprint of prototyping and refinement. The final demo session was judged by a panel including Associate Director of HKCRC Dr. Liang Haobo,, Marketing Director Li Yonggang, Product Manager Zuo Kui, CEO of Skyland Innovation Pan Jie, and representatives from each team, collectively witnessing the presentation of five innovative solutions.

This bootcamp was more than a convergence of technology and business—it was a co-creative exploration of the "future home." These young innovators transformed everyday pain points into tangible possibilities, truly embodying the hands-on spirit of stepping into the arena.

HKCRC will continue to support these promising projects within our incubation ecosystem as they embark on their cross-border journeys. The next chapter of intelligent home decoration is being written, and we are thrilled to be part of it.

On January 30, 2026, the Hong Kong Centre for Construction Robotics (HKCRC) officially launched its "Cross-Border Home Decoration Technology Innovation Camp" at Great Bay University’s Songshan Lake Campus in Dongguan.

The camp brings together 22 carefully selected participants from diverse backgrounds, including seasoned professionals from intelligent construction, smart homes, and cross-border e-commerce, as well as top student innovators from The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, Tsinghua University, Harvard University, The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (Guangzhou), Shenzhen University, Huazhong University of Science and Technology, and Northwestern Polytechnical University.

The opening day set the stage with focused sessions on the latest trends in connected homes and sustainable innovation, led by experts from real estate tech research institutes, top design firms, and established founders. Guided by these insights, participants then moved into hands-on workshops, forming five interdisciplinary teams. Together, they applied design thinking to address concrete industry challenges, creating a dynamic blend of professional experience and innovative academic thinking.

We were honoured to welcome Singapore’s Minister for National Development, Mr. Chee Hong Tat, along with representatives from the Ministry of National Development, Housing & Development Board, and Building and Construction Authority, to the Hong Kong Center for Construction Robotics (HKCRC) on January 26. This visit highlights our shared commitment to advancing construction innovation through technology.

During the engagement, HKCRC Director Professor Li Zexiang presented the Center’s forward-thinking innovation philosophy and elaborated on how the XbotPark ecosystem has established a world-class model for startup incubation. Over the past 30 years, this ecosystem has fostered 272 companies, including 4 publicly listed and 12 unicorn enterprises—a testament to a framework that has gained widespread recognition from governments, academic institutions, and industries globally.

We held productive exchanges on several key topics, including end-to-end technology innovation models, potential collaboration opportunities in technological innovation between the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and Singapore, and pathways to scalable adoption of smart construction solutions.

The delegation also explored firsthand a selection of cutting-edge projects incubated at HKCRC that are redefining intelligent construction:

At the "CIC Innovation Award 2025" ceremony held on January 21, 2026, the "AI Tower Crane System"—a joint submission by the Hong Kong Housing Authority (HKHA), CR Construction Company Limited, and the Hong Kong Center for Construction Robotics (HKCRC)—was awarded the Second Prize in the "Local Construction Safety" category. This accolade recognizes the system's exceptional effectiveness in enhancing construction site safety. The award not only signifies high-level industry validation of the project team's technical innovation but also marks a pivotal step forward for smart construction technologies in safeguarding worker lives and driving industry transformation.

Independently developed by HKCRC, the AI Tower Crane System leverages 5G connectivity and advanced sensor integration to deliver four core capabilities: AI Safety Monitoring, AI Anti-Sway Control, Remote Operation, and AI Path Planning. The system has successfully increased lifting efficiency by 30%, effectively shortened construction schedules, enhanced operational safety, and significantly improved the working environment for operators. The synergistic breakthrough of these four core technologies constructs an "intelligent guardian net" for construction sites.

CraneR Technology Limited, incubated by the Hong Kong Center for Construction Robotics (HKCRC), is a high-tech company dedicated to the R&D and commercialization of construction machinery, robotics, and intelligent application systems. The team aggregates interdisciplinary researchers from top institutions including the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST), Hong Kong Polytechnic University, and the University of Chinese Academy of Sciences. Focused on translating frontier academic achievements into innovative solutions that address actual pain points in the construction sector, the team counts the AI Tower Crane System as one of its core achievements in promoting construction intelligence and operational safety.
