PolyU students, supported by their peers from Yunnan University, delivered a meaningful service project in Yunnan and brought hospitality-specific training to local youths. In-depth discussions covered culinary techniques, Western food and beverage services, regional traditions, and workplace English, with vibrant and energetic exchanges throughout. Through hands-on workshops spanning Eastern and Western catering and tea service, our students and local youths uncovered the value of collaboration and empowered one another.

In Yunnan, PolyU students went into the community and spoke directly with nursing home staff about their daily challenges. They designed health promotion plans for these workers, joined activities to support their wellness, and reflected on the experience to become more community-minded future professionals.

It has been incredible to see our students grow through their service-learning journey and make a meaningful impact in the community!

What an unforgettable experience in the Philippines!

PolyU students left their classrooms and went to the heart of a new place, putting what they learned about community resilience into practice. Joined by students from the University of the Philippines Baguio (UP Baguio), they organized a summer camp with fun-filled activities and games focused on building emotional and social resilience. They helped local children and youth build vital tools like self-esteem and self-awareness while practising their English. They brought out the biggest smiles from the locals and earned themselves lifelong lessons in serving the community.

In the Philippines, PolyU students translated classroom theory into practice as they took charge of the local clinic floors. They conducted vital physical health checks, delivered lifestyle counseling, and facilitated cognitive brain exercises for residents. Through this hands-on service-learning experience, our students strengthened vulnerable community health systems and gained a deep, global perspective on health care.

Together, we learned, served, and grew!

A while ago, we welcomed a visiting delegation from Nanyang Technological University to our campus. As a recognized leader in service-learning, we frequently have the privilege of opening our doors to institutions looking to share and exchange.

It was an incredible occasion of cross-institutional connection and deep-dive discussions. Our team spent the days hosting meetings, sharing our experience, and demonstrating the exact frameworks that have put us at the forefront.

We love opening our doors to fellow educators and innovators who share our passion for pushing boundaries in service-learning. Thank you to our guests for a fantastic discussion!

In Yunnan, PolyU students designed and hosted useful health education workshops for local youth. Through fun-filled game booths and role-play activities, they made learning about health easy and engaging. With informative mini-lectures, they tackled vital youth-related health and wellness issues with care and created a lasting experience for the local youth. By tailoring every session to the community's needs, our students weren’t just teaching—they were learning the power of sharing, leadership, and global citizenship.

[𝐈𝐧 𝐘𝐮𝐧𝐧𝐚𝐧] 𝐀 𝐭𝐨𝐮𝐜𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐦𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐭𝐞𝐜𝐡𝐧𝐨𝐥𝐨𝐠𝐲!

Through an innovative service-learning project by Department of Computing, The Hong Kong Polytechnic University , our students collected the life stories of elderly individuals living in solitude in the peaceful corners of Yunnan. They did not merely record them; they served as the “Ferrymen,” transforming these real-life narratives into interactive memorials. They leveraged self-developed platforms, VR, AI digital avatars, and 3D scene reconstruction technologies to build an immersive city of memories.

This project is no longer exclusively about archiving history; it is about creating a digital space where one can walk through someone’s lifetime. It involves blending technology with a human touch to create digital tributes that can endure for future generations.
