[2026 SHSS Welcome Dinner Recap]

On 11 September, SHSS held our Welcome Dinner to welcome all Year 1 students. We also extended invitations to senior-year students, alumni, incoming exchange students, administrative and teaching staff for this joyful gala.

We were delighted to be joined by Assistant Dean Prof Sangyoon PARK, Associate Dean Prof Stuart Gietel-Basten and Prof James Wong, Head and Chair Professor of the Division of Social Science Prof Yongshun CAI, Acting Head of the Division of Humanities Prof James Simpson, alongside many other faculty members.

Following inspiring welcome remarks from our professors, the evening featured fun ice-breaking activities including a Kahoot quiz, vocabulary challenge, lucky draw and treasure hunt. It was wonderful to see everyone enjoying themselves, connecting with new peers and celebrating the start of a new semester.

We wish all of you a fantastic semester ahead!

🚨 DON’T LET “HELPFUL” CALLS FOOL YOU! 🚨

Even highly educated, high-income professionals are falling prey to the latest “highly sophisticated” pretend official scam. Recently, a local doctor lost HK$1.49 Million to this precise trap.

The scammers aren’t just calling anymore—they are showing up at doorsteps with forged documents to make the scam feel 100% real.

⚠️ WATCH OUT FOR THE 4 DEADLY SCRIPT ELEMENTS:
1️⃣ The “Helpful” Setup: A fake courier warns you about identity theft.
2️⃣ Reality Blending: In-person visits with forged official papers.
3️⃣ Layered Escalation: Shifting roles from courier ➡️ police ➡️ prosecutor.
4️⃣ Force Isolation: Demanding you delete chat history so you can’t get help.

💡 KEY TAKEAWAY: Law enforcement officers from the Mainland will NEVER call you directly to handle cases or demand “bail” over the phone.

Spread the word to protect your family and colleagues!

📞 Suspect something is off? Don’t hesitate. Call the ADCC “Anti-Scam Helpline 18222” immediately!
