🏆 Congratulations to our student Mr. WIJAYA Nikolas Jonathan, and Mr. Michael Arya Wijaya and Mr. Joseph Berachah from won 1st place in the Startup Track at the 48-hour SEAHacks Hackathon, held on 4–5 July 2026. The team together with a graduate from HKU developed ‘Weft’, an open-source, privacy-first desktop application that helps users manage personal relationships across messaging platforms. It organizes conversation history into meaningful relationship context, including important memories and follow-ups, and uses machine learning to generate context-aware reply suggestions. With a strong focus on privacy, Weft stores conversations and generated information locally on the user’s device, keeping users in control of their data. The project competed among 25 submitted projects.👏 Congratulations to Nikolas and his team on this wonderful achievement!

恭喜AMA WIJAYA Nikolas Jonathan 同學，與來自 的 Michael Arya Wijaya 和 Joseph Berachah 同學，在2026 年 7 月 4–5 日舉行的 48 小時 SEAHacks「Startup Track」取得第一名！
團隊與另一位來自香港大學的隊友攜手開發「Weft」——一款保障使用者私隱的桌面應用程式，協助使用者在不同通訊平台之間管理個人關係。它能將對話歷史整理成具意義的關係情境，包括重要回憶與後續跟進，並運用機器學習生成情境感知的回覆建議。 在高度重視私隱的前提下，Weft將對話內容及生成資訊儲存在使用者裝置中，讓使用者掌握自身資料的使用權。該項目在25 個提交的作品中脫穎而出。👏 恭喜 Nikolas 及各同學取得這份出色的成就！

[In Memoriam: Mr. Shih Tsi-Min, Retired Faculty of AMA] We are deeply saddened by the passing of Mr. Shih Tsi-Min, our retired Associate Professor. Mr. Shih joined in 1977 and served until his retirement in 1997. He was an enthusiastic and passionate educator who devoted himself to nurturing the younger generation and mentored many outstanding PhD graduates during his tenure. Following his retirement, Mr. Shih founded and chaired the People Charity Foundation Limited. He generously supported AMA students by establishing a scholarship in 2022/23 - 2024/25, thereby continuing his lifelong commitment to developing the next generation. We extend our deepest condolences to his family. Mr. Shih will be deeply missed by the AMA community.

香港理工大學應用數學系退休副教授石濟民先生（石Sir）日前與世長辭，我們深表哀痛。石Sir於1977年加入應用數學系，直至1997年榮休，是一位深受敬重的教育工作者。他畢生致力於教育事業，悉心栽培學生，孕育出無數傑出校友，桃李滿門。退休後，石Sir依然心繫年輕人的發展，創辦「惠民慈善基金」同時擔任主席，並於2022/23至2024/25學年設立「惠民慈善基金獎學金」，慷慨資助 學生，繼續造福下一代。
我們向石先生的家屬致以最深切的慰問。石Sir對教育的無私奉獻及深遠影響將永遠留在我們心中。

From a highly competitive pool of nominations across Hong Kong’s eight UGC-funded universities, Professor Dai Min was selected as one of only nine distinguished SRFS awardees! 🌟With this fellowship, he will receive approximately HK$8.5 million over 60 months to support his groundbreaking research in financial mathematics and quantitative finance. 📈💻Prof. Dai is AMA’s Chair Professor of Applied Statistics and Financial Mathematics. 👩‍💻 Prof. Tang Rong joined us on 1 May 2026 as Assistant Professor. Her research explores new frontiers in numerical analysis and scientific computing, bringing a fantastic youthful drive to both our research initiatives and classrooms.
👨‍💻 Prof. Huang Yilie is also an Assistant Professor who joined us on 1 June 2026. His work operates at the highly modern intersection of reinforcement learning, generative AI diffusion models, and financial engineering to solve real-world uncertainties.
