Professor Zhang Jian, Associate Professor in the Department of Accountancy, Economics and Finance at HKBU School of Business, has been awarded the Rising Star Research Grant 2025โ€“26 by the university.

His funded project, โ€œBank Accounting, Financial Stability, and Sustainable Credit Marketsโ€, examines how new international banking standards influence risk management, lending practices, and broader economic outcomes. By requiring earlier recognition of potential loan losses, these standards aim to strengthen transparency and resilience in the financial system.

Building on his strong research record, with publications in leading journals such as Review of Accounting Studies and Contemporary Accounting Research, the findings from this project are expected to shed light on how accounting rules connect to real world outcomes, offering valuable insights for both financial institutions and regulators.

On 27 August 2026, HKBU School of Business welcomed over 530 new BBA students, including 37 international students ๐ŸŒ, for the 2026โ€“27 academic year. The Orientation Day introduced academic programmes, resources, and community, marking the beginning of their undergraduate journey.

๐ŸŽ™๏ธ Dean Professor Zhang Han delivered opening remarks, encouraging students to embrace curiosity and actively participate in exchanges, internships, and competitions. ๐Ÿ“– Dr Lucia Fung, BBA Programme Director, provided a comprehensive academic briefing on curriculum and university life. ๐Ÿ’ก Mr Ryan Man and Dr Joyce Kong highlighted developmental opportunities including experiential learning, the Double Degree Programme, and the Student Ambassador Scheme. ๐ŸŒ

On 25 Aug 2026, HKBU School of Business signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Guangzhou Cloud Butterfly Technology Co., Ltd. The partnership strengthens industryโ€‘academia collaboration in AI + Business Education. ๐ŸŽ“๐Ÿ’ก

Signed by Professor Zhang Han, Dean of the School, and Dr Tian Xuesong, Founder and CEO of Cloud Butterfly Tech, the MoU establishes a joint industry-academia-research lab in Guangzhouโ€™s Haizhu District. The hub will support student internships, research, project development, and entrepreneurship.โœจ

Students will benefit from company visits, industryโ€‘integrated curriculum, mentorship, hackathons, innovation challenges, and handsโ€‘on workshops.
๐ŸŽคProfessor Li Mengxiang, Programme Director of the Master of Science in AI for Business (MScAIB) and Associate Professor of MMIS, highlighted the mission to cultivate leaders who bridge AI and business innovation. ๐Ÿค–๐Ÿ’กMr Luo Chongjian, Vice President of Cloud Butterfly Technology, noted that embodied intelligence must move beyond the laboratory and into real business scenarios to accumulate data, iterate, and evolve. ๐Ÿ”„
