理大聯合承辦「第三屆GTI數智香江國際論壇」 推動全球AI+創新及深化產學研協作🤖

由GTI主辦,理大、中國移動等機構聯合承辦的第三屆GTI數智香江國際論壇於9月8日至9日圓滿舉行。論壇以「開放、共享、合作,共促AI發展」為主題,匯聚全球專家學者及產業領袖,共同探討人工智能前沿技術、深化國際合作及共享發展機遇。

✨論壇期間,理大聯同中國移動及GTI共同發布AI4S「天工智衍」科學智算服務平台國際版(TG Science),並發起《AI for Science創新發展倡議》。此舉標誌著理大持續推進「人工智能+科學研究」(AI for Science)發展的重要里程碑,致力構建跨境人工智能科研協同、全球開源科研大模型匯聚平台,賦能全球科研與產業應用。

The 3rd GTI Forum on Digital Intelligence Hong Kong, hosted by GTI and co-hosted by PolyU, China Mobile, and other partners, was successfully held from 8 to 9 September. Under the theme “Openness, Sharing, Cooperation Advancing AI Development,” the Forum brought together leading experts, researchers and industry leaders from around the world to explore cutting-edge AI technologies, foster global collaboration and unlock new opportunities for innovation.

✨A major highlight of the Forum was the joint launch of the AI4S Scientific Workstation • International Edition (TG Science) by PolyU, China Mobile, and GTI, alongside the release of the AI for Science Innovation and Development Initiative. This milestone marks a significant step forward in PolyU's efforts to advance "AI for Science" (AI4S) by fostering cross-border AI research collaboration and building a global ecosystem for open-source scientific foundation models, thereby empowering scientific research and industrial applications worldwide.

Following the Forum, 𝐌𝐫 𝐋𝐢 𝐇𝐮𝐢𝐝𝐢, 𝐄𝐱𝐞𝐜𝐮𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐕𝐢𝐜𝐞 𝐏𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐨𝐟 𝐂𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐚 𝐌𝐨𝐛𝐢𝐥𝐞, led a high-level delegation to visit PolyU’s Quantum Technology Laboratory and the 6G Laboratory, exploring the latest developments in next-generation communication networks and quantum technologies, while deepening the partnership between PolyU and China Mobile and strengthening strategic collaboration in advanced technology research.🤝

研究有助釐清腰大肌僵硬與下背痛之間可能的雙向關係

患有慢性下背痛的頂尖運動員,其腰大肌僵硬度較高,且與運動功能障礙有關。

理大康復治療科學系副系主任及洪克協痛症管理教授符少娥及其研究團隊,對精英體操及武術運動員進行研究,探討腰大肌的機械特性尤其是其僵硬度,是否與慢性下背痛有關。

該研究的結果顯示,腰大肌僵硬與慢性下背痛之間可能存在雙向關係:腰肌張力增加會導致與運動相關的功能障礙,而慢性疼痛則會影響神經肌肉控制,繼而進一步增加腰大肌僵硬度。此項研究有助釐清兩者之間的關係,並能協助運動員打破這個惡性循環。

Elite athletes with chronic low back pain (LBP) display higher psoas major (PM) stiffness tied to sport dysfunction.

Prof. Amy Siu Ngor FU, Associate Head (Rehabilitation Sciences) and Peter Hung Professor in Pain Management of the Department of Rehabilitation Sciences at PolyU, and her research team investigated whether the mechanical properties of the PM muscle—particularly its stiffness—are associated with chronic LBP in elite gymnastics and wushu athletes.

The research findings suggest a possible two-way relationship between PM stiffness and LBP: increased psoas tension may lead to sport-related dysfunction, while chronic pain can alter neuromuscular control and further increase PM stiffness. This study helps clarify the relationship and can help athletes break the vicious cycle.

平衡安全與健康:微生物於食品系統中的角色🥗

微生物雖然不能被肉眼所見,卻在全球食品系統中扮演着舉足輕重的角色。理大食品科學及營養學系副教授夏效東教授致力研究微生物如何提升食品品質,同時又可能對人體健康構成風險。他結合了食品安全腸道微生物組科學,以在控制有害病原體與善用有益微生物之間取得平衡。🍃

🌾有益微生物有助改善土壤健康、促進農作物生長,亦在乳酪、芝士及麵包等食品的發酵過程中發揮作用;相反,有害微生物,包括沙門氏菌及大腸桿菌等,則可能引致食物變質及疾病,對公共衛生及經濟帶來挑戰。

夏教授的研究在提升食品安全水平,及推動精準營養及微生物組醫療的發展已展現出巨大潛力,為建立更安全健康及可持續的食品系統注入了新動力。

Microorganisms, though invisible to the naked eye, play a fundamental role in the global food system. The research from 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐟. 𝐗𝐢𝐚 𝐗𝐢𝐚𝐨𝐝𝐨𝐧𝐠, 𝐀𝐬𝐬𝐨𝐜𝐢𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐟𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐨𝐫 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐃𝐞𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐨𝐟 𝐅𝐨𝐨𝐝 𝐒𝐜𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐍𝐮𝐭𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐚𝐭 𝐏𝐨𝐥𝐲𝐔, focuses on these “invisible players” and their dual roles in enhancing food quality and posing risks to human health. His work integrates food safety with gut microbiome science, aiming to balance the control of harmful pathogens with the utilisation of beneficial microbes.🍃

🌾Beneficial microorganisms support soil health, plant growth and fermentation processes that produce foods such as yogurt, cheese, and bread. In contrast, harmful microbes—including pathogens such as Salmonella and Escherichia coli—could cause food spoilage and illness, creating significant public health and economic challenges.

His work demonstrates strong real-world potential in improving food safety, advancing precision nutrition, and enabling microbiome-based therapies, contributing to safer, healthier and more sustainable food systems.

理大與杭州德適生物科技正式成立「理大–德適科技通用人工智能與醫學應用聯合實驗室」,揭牌儀式於理大校園舉行。

是次合作緊扣國家「健康中國」建設的戰略需求,聚焦醫學影像分析、醫療基礎模型構建及自動化技術等前沿範疇。雙方將結合理大於人工智能及數據科學的原始創新科研優勢,以及德適科技在醫學影像、智慧醫療設備與醫療 AI「工業化量產」的豐富產業經驗,搭建貫通基礎研究、技術開發至臨床轉化的全鏈條創新平台,並推動跨學科協作與人才培育。

Supporting the strategic priorities of the national “Healthy China” initiative, the collaboration focuses on frontier domains including medical image analysis, medical foundation models, and healthcare automation technologies. The partnership unites PolyU’s world-class research strengths in AI and data science with Diagens Tech’s extensive industry experience in medical imaging, smart medical devices, and the industrial-scale deployment of healthcare AI. Both parties will establish an end-to-end innovation platform bridging fundamental research, technology development, and clinical translation, while fostering interdisciplinary collaboration and talent development.

【理大成立 InnoHK 智能電網與能源技術研究中心 ⚡🌱 】

面對極端天氣挑戰,加上 AI 數據中心、電動車普及與分布式可再生能源迅速發展,電網升級已成全球能源轉型的關鍵課題。為應對變局,理大正式成立「InnoHK 智能電網與能源技術研究中心」(InnoHK I-GET),進駐特區政府「SEAM@InnoHK」平台,成為當中唯一專注電網技術的研發中心。

InnoHK I-GET 由理大電機及電子工程學系系主任、電力系統工程講座教授、電網現代化研究中心主任鍾志勇教授擔任主任,倫敦國王學院研究與專項事務高級副校長 Sir Bashir M. Al-Hashimi 教授出任聯席主任,聯合香港、中國內地及海外超過70名教授組成跨學科團隊,重點研究四大範疇:

PolyU launches InnoHK I-GET to build intelligent grid for carbon-neutral future ⚡🌱

Surging power demand from AI data centres and electric vehicles, alongside the rapid rise of distributed renewables and increasingly severe climate shocks, is pushing traditional grids to their limits. To tackle this urgent challenge, PolyU has officially launched the InnoHK Research Centre for Intelligent GRID and Energy Technologies (InnoHK I-GET) under the HKSAR Government’s “SEAM@InnoHK” cluster — the platform’s only research centre dedicated to power grid technology.

The Director of InnoHK I-GET is Prof. CHUNG Chi-yung, Head of the PolyU Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Chair Professor of Power Systems Engineering and Director of the Research Centre for Grid Modernisation, with Prof. Sir Bashir M. AL-HASHIMI, Senior Vice President (Research & Special Initiatives) of King’s College London, serving as Co-Director. The Centre unites an interdisciplinary team of more than 70 professors across Hong Kong, Chinese Mainland and overseas.

InnoHK I-GET will focus on four core research pillars:
🤖 Autonomous energy management technologies for smart grids
🔌 Green and intelligent grid interfaces
🚗 Grid-friendly new energy transport
💡Emerging grid and energy technologies

受葉脈啟發的仿生脈管涼感紡織物料 提升乾燥效率、舒適度及降溫效果

讓運動員保持身體乾爽,並享有輕盈舒適的穿着體驗,是運動服領域的一大挑戰。

為應對這項挑戰,理大時裝及紡織學院講座教授及李氏紡織科技教授范金土率領其研究團隊,開發出一款受葉脈啟發的仿生脈管冷感物料。

與完全濕潤的表面相比,該紡織物料每單位濕面積的蒸發率高出54.2%,乾燥效率上升18%,汗水積聚量減少15%,舒適度提升24.1%。這些成果為運動服性能樹立了新基準。

Keeping athletes dry, light and comfortable is a critical sportswear challenge.

Prof. Jintu FAN, Chair Professor and Lee Family Professor in Textiles Technologies of the School of Fashion and Textiles at PolyU, led his research team in addressing this challenge by introducing a biomimetic vascular cool fabric, inspired by leaf veins.

Compared with a fully wet surface, the fabric achieved a 54.2% higher evaporation rate per unit wet area, 18% better drying efficiency, 15% less sweat accumulation and a 24.1% comfort gain, setting a new benchmark for sportswear.

馬拉松跑手的新啟示——不只鍛鍊耐力,還要提升協調性

長跑近年愈來愈受歡迎,尤其是馬拉松。馬拉松不僅考驗有氧能力,疲勞也會影響動作控制及衝擊吸收能力。

理大生物醫學工程學系系主任及講座教授張明工程師與其研究團隊,研究了跑手在一場戶外全程馬拉松賽跑中如何調適下肢協調性及衝擊負荷。

該研究顯示,跑手在全馬拉松中會主動調適其動作策略。這些見解有助教練制定更有效的訓練策略,在重視耐力的同時,亦優先考量協調穩定性。

Long-distance running, and marathons in particular, has been gaining in popularity. A marathon tests more than aerobic capacity. Fatigue also affects movement control and impact absorption.

Ir Prof. Ming ZHANG, Head and Chair Professor of the Department of Biomedical Engineering at PolyU, and his research team studied how runners adapt their lower-limb coordination and impact loading during a full outdoor marathon.

The study shows that runners actively adapt their movement strategies during a full marathon. These insights can help trainers build more effective strategies that prioritise coordination stability alongside endurance.

理大進駐InnoHK第三個研發平台SEAM@InnoHK 推動電網技術及太空製造領域發展

理大代表今日出席中華人民共和國香港特別行政區政府第三個 InnoHK 研發平台 「SEAM@InnoHK」 啟動典禮, 理大的「InnoHK智能電網與能源技術研究中心」(InnoHK I-GET)為平台中唯一專注電網技術的研究中心,致力透過研究智能電網,支持實現碳中和目標;此外,理大亦與中國科學院香港創新研究院合作,以主要本地合作夥伴的身分參與「InnoHK太空製造技術創新中心」(InnoHK CSMT)的研究,提供先進製造及材料技術,為太空科技領域作出貢獻。理大透過參與上述兩所中心的研究,發揮卓越科研與強大環球網絡的優勢,為香港建設國際創新科技中心注入新動力。啟動禮由香港特區政府創新科技及工業局局長孫東教授、香港科技園公司主席鍾郝儀女士、創新科技及工業局常任秘書長蔡傑銘先生、中聯辦經濟金融二部副部長呂峰先生、創新科技署署長李國彬先生、香港科技園公司行政總裁黃秉修先生、理大校長滕錦光教授,以及多所大學、研究中心代表親臨主禮。

𝐏𝐨𝐥𝐲𝐔 𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐢𝐩𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐬 𝐢𝐧 𝐒𝐄𝐀𝐌@𝐈𝐧𝐧𝐨𝐇𝐊, 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐫𝐝 𝐈𝐧𝐧𝐨𝐇𝐊 𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐜𝐡 𝐜𝐥𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐫, 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐫𝐢𝐛𝐮𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐠𝐫𝐢𝐝 𝐭𝐞𝐜𝐡𝐧𝐨𝐥𝐨𝐠𝐲 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐬𝐩𝐚𝐜𝐞 𝐦𝐚𝐧𝐮𝐟𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐞𝐱𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐭𝐢𝐬𝐞

Representatives of PolyU today attended the launch ceremony of SEAM@InnoHK, the third InnoHK research cluster established by the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region of the People’s Republic of China. PolyU’s InnoHK Research Centre for Intelligent GRID and Energy Technologies (InnoHK I-GET) is the only research centre on the SEAM@InnoHK cluster dedicated to grid technology, with a mission to support carbon neutrality through smart grid research. In addition, in partnership with the Hong Kong Institute of Science & Innovation, Chinese Academy of Sciences, PolyU is a major local partner in the InnoHK Centre for Space Manufacturing Technology (InnoHK CSMT), contributing the University’s expertise in advanced manufacturing and materials technologies. By participating in the research of both centres, PolyU harnesses its research excellence and robust global network to inject new momentum into Hong Kong’s development as an international innovation and technology hub.

The launch ceremony was officiated by 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐟.
